X-Men ’97 Creator Confirms Huge Morph & Wolverine Fan Theory

X-Men ’97 Creator Confirms Huge Morph & Wolverine Fan Theory

In the X-Men ’97 Season 1 finale, there is a surprisingly heartwarming moment between Morph and Wolverine. According to series creator Beau DeMayo, this moment is exactly what it appears to be: Morph expressing his romantic feelings.

In the final episode of X-Men ’97, beloved character Wolverine is left on the brink of death when his unbreakable adamantium is forcibly removed as punishment for his attack on Magneto.

After the X-Men regroup in space, Morph takes on the responsibility of looking after the wounded Wolverine. As the episode nears its conclusion, there is a shocking turn of events when Morph transforms into Jean Grey and confesses to Wolverine, “She may not be able to express it, but I can. I love you, Logan. Please stay with me.”

Despite the initial appearance that Morph is using Jean’s form to comfort the dying Wolverine, DeMayo clarified on X/Twitter that Morph was actually confessing his romantic feelings for Logan. This sheds a new light on the scene for many fans.

The show has hinted at a potential romantic relationship between Morph and Wolverine. In the closing of Episode 2, Morph transformed into Sabretooth to lift Wolverine’s spirits with a friendly fight. In Episode 3, Morph mistakenly thought he caught Wolverine showering and offered to assist with cleaning his “difficult-to-reach areas.”

The payoff is enjoyable for fans who have been following for a long time. Morph played a significant role in Wolverine’s journey in the original series, and his supposed death in the first episode motivated Wolverine’s battle against the Sentinels.

Despite being brainwashed by Mister Sinister, his return in Season 2 only added to the already traumatizing experience. Wolverine spent a significant amount of time throughout the season trying to track down Morph, determined to rescue his dear friend.

Despite his absence for the majority of the series after Season 2, Morph continued to be a beloved character among fans and eventually made his debut in X-Men comics.

With the release of X-Men ’97, he has come back with a fresh perspective, unburdened by past traumas. The show has also embraced Morph’s shapeshifting abilities by portraying the character as non-binary.

The fate of Morph and Wolverine remains uncertain. They were not present in the finale’s ending and their whereabouts and destiny will have to be revealed in the potential second season of X-Men ’97.
