X-Men 97 Mystery Resurfaces as Creator Reveals Possible Emmy Blockage

As X-Men ’97 continues to make progress towards its first Emmy Award, the enigma surrounding the unexpected dismissal of Beau DeMayo is once again in the spotlight.

X-Men ’97 proved to be a surprise success and is now on track to become an unexpected recipient of an award. The revamped version of the beloved 90s cartoon has been nominated for Outstanding Animated Program at the 2024 Emmy Awards.

Despite the nomination, there is some controversy surrounding it. Beau DeMayo, co-creator of the series, recently shared on social media his frustration at not being contacted about the event. This is despite the fact that he was the one who created and wrote the award-winning episode, Remember It.

Emmy-nominated episode Remember It was a turning point for X-Men ’97, shifting the series from a nostalgic joy ride to a dark adventure.

In a post on X, DeMayo clarified that Marvel-Disney has not yet contacted him to arrange for his attendance at the Emmy’s for the show he created. He also mentioned in a later message that his team has reached out and they will wait to see what happens.

Fans on social media are showing their support for him to potentially win an Emmy for X-Men ’97. They are expressing their confusion over why Disney did not ask him to return and some are stating that despite any differences, he should be present to receive recognition.

Even though DeMayo was terminated from X-Men ’97 only two weeks before its debut on Disney+, he remains credited as the writer and executive producer. It has been reported that a significant amount of his material is still being utilized for the second season of X-Men ’97.

Despite the promotion for the series ramping up, the sudden termination of Beau DeMayo raises the lingering question of why he was fired.

According to industry insiders like Jeff Sneider, the reason behind DeMayo’s alleged departure from Disney is believed to be his difficult demeanor and executives’ discomfort with his promotion of projects on his OnlyFans page. However, neither Disney nor DeMayo have officially addressed these speculations.

Despite DeMayo’s termination casting a shadow, X-Men ’97 proved to be a massive success and was the top-rated Marvel show of 2024. However, fans have already begun to scrutinize the upcoming second season, as leaked information revealed that costumes from the New X-Men era will be featured and Season 3 will be written by Matthew Chauncey, known for his work on Ms. Marvel.

Currently, there is no set premiere date for Season 2 of X-Men ’97. To stay updated on all things Marvel, be sure to keep up with the latest developments in Marvel Phase 6.
