Developer XDefiant has responded to recent rumors suggesting that the game is experiencing continued delays because it seeks to compete with Call of Duty, and confirmed that a release update is planned soon.

Fans are desperate to know the release date, but they will have to wait a little longer, as the recent rumor claims that the game is “months away from release”and that these delays are due to an “endless hunt for compete with COD.”

On March 23, Insider Gaming discussed the current state of XDefiant. According to Insider Gaming, the shooter has missed “dozens of internal targets” in recent years. Also, some developers at Ubisoft shared why the game is constantly experiencing delays: “The endless chase to compete with COD and add unnecessary stuff that affects the current version.”
Mark Rubin denied wanting to compete with CoD and claimed the main reason for the delays was “technical issues”. He then clarified their inspirations by developing XDefiant. “…we are targeting a different era in FPS history, i.e. old CoD. So, are we ‘continuing’ the old CoDs? To a certain extent, but we don’t want to be like what the new CoDs are.”
In a separate Twitter thread, Mark released a statement and said that there would be an update on the game very soon.

He also reassured fans again that they won’t follow the modern CoD model. He explained: “I can confirm that no initiatives have been taken to integrate SBMM into the game.”
For instance, I can confirm that no push has been made to put SBMM into the game. Our Unranked playlists will still have no SBMM and you will get the variety of gameplay that you see when there isn’t SBMM.

On a more positive note, Insider Gaming said that XDefiant is far from being canceled by Ubisoft. So, even though the wait will be long, we will eventually get our hands on the shooter.
Hopefully the upcoming update will shed some light on XDefiant ‘s potential release date.
