XDefiant Developers Announce Plans for Prestige System and Progression Overhaul

XDefiant’s mastery system is undergoing significant changes in response to weapon leveling receiving buffs. This will make it more challenging to fully maximize a weapon and unlock mastery skins. These alterations also serve as preparation for the upcoming introduction of a Prestige system.

In XDefiant, the progression beyond weapon unlocks and camos is quite limited, which has led to players requesting significant upgrades to keep them interested. This is why the decision made by the developers to decrease the rate of weapon mastery progression sparked controversy.

Rubin clarified the reasoning behind the team’s decision to increase the level requirements for weapon mastery across all weapons in their latest set of changes to weapon leveling.

Weapon attachments have a significant impact on gameplay, and our initial estimation showed that players were unlocking them at a slower pace than anticipated. In response, we have implemented a faster leveling system. However, Weapon Mastery is not meant to affect gameplay and is meant to showcase a player’s commitment to a particular weapon. Therefore, we have also re-balanced the leveling system to better reflect this intention.

Getting Gold weapon mastery skins will now require players to get to weapon level 200

Although it may appear that the increased weapon mastery levels will make obtaining the gold skin more difficult, in reality it is simply a “sidegrade”as weapon progression has been accelerated.

This is simply one aspect of an ongoing endeavor to provide players with a greater variety of activities after they have exhausted all available weapon unlocks.

“According to Rubin, there are multiple developments on the horizon, including the arrival of Prestige, a new version of weapon mastery, and other forms of progression.”

Despite not receiving much attention at the time, it was officially announced months ago that Prestige would be included in XDefiant. As early as January 2024, well before the game’s release, Rubin had mentioned that the system would be updated yearly in an effort to keep it exciting.

“We aim to implement a traditional prestige system, but we acknowledge that in games like CoD, a new set of prestiges is released every year with a new game. However, as our game is designed to have a longer lifespan, we are considering the possibility of having yearly prestiges.”

Despite some players expressing dissatisfaction with XDefiant’s current progression system, the developers are actively seeking ways to reward their most dedicated fans.
