XDefiant: Estimated release date, gameplay, platforms…

After a successful beta, XDefiant has established itself as one of the most anticipated FPS games. Here’s everything you need to know about Ubisoft’s new gem.

Ubisoft has been working on its new FPS for a few years now and the game’s concept of connecting different universes in an arena shooter is a pretty intriguing prospect. Indeed, in XDefiant players have the choice between different factions from other titles from the studio such as Far Cry, Splinter Cell or even The Division.

After being revealed in 2021, Ubisoft had been rather discreet, until overnight they announced the launch of the closed beta of the FPS. Enough to allow players to get their hands on it before the release of this free-to-play.

Is there a release date for XDefiant?

As of December 2023, still no official release date has been announced by the developers. Months after the first public tests, the community is really starting to get impatient as the game was due to be released at the end of summer 2023.

On the XDefiant reddit, players are wondering and some have not hesitated to share their theories on a possible release at the end of November or the beginning of December. According to user JollyAstronomer, this date would be likely because it would allow XDefiant to recover players unhappy with its competitor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, scheduled for release on November 10, 2023.

A release date for summer 2023 was initially put forward by Mark Rubin, confirmed during Ubisoft Forward, indicating that XDefiant would launch sometime in summer. On July 7, they confirmed that the release was planned “later this summer”, without giving further details.

A rumor regarding a release early September then gained momentum on social networks. It all started with a tweet from Ludwig mentioning a competition on several games, including XDefiant, which will take place on September 2. So far nothing extraordinary, except that the official XDefiant account retweeted his video.

As the weeks passed and players began to lose hope, on September 11 Ubisoftcame out of its radio silence. Mark Rubin vaguely indicated that the game would be released “as soon as possible” .

Shortly after, the developers announced the release of a public test on September 28, 2023, which suggests a release not before the end of October.

Following this public test, the official X account (Twitter) of XDefiant has just communicated that the developers have made “the tough decision to delay the XDefiant Preseason” .

It will be necessary to wait a few more weeks before XDefiant is available to everyone. Many players, after months of waiting, are starting to show their impatience.

Since then, the only official news we’ve had from the XDefiant developers is a tweet to wish Happy New Year.

“Happy New Year from the entire XDefiant team. We can’t wait to see what 2024 has in store for us!”

This tweet therefore contains no real information on the game’s release date or anything else. And while the game was due to be released in the summer of 2023, some are already starting to wonder whether XDefiant will see the light of day or not.

XDefiant platforms

XDefiant sera disponible sur Xbox One et X|S, PlayStation 4/5, PC, Google Stadia et Amazon Luna.

The game will run at 120 Hz on PS5 and Xbox Series X according to Mark Rubin.

Was there an open beta of XDefiant?

The XDefiant Open Beta took place from June 21-23.

On September 28, 2023, a public test took place.

A glimpse of the gameplay

Former Call of Duty developers and professional gamers participated in the creation of XDefiant. That’s why this fast-paced FPS feels a lot like CoD in many ways. The game will feature 14 maps and 24 weapons at launch, and Rubin hasrevealed a roadmap with plenty of content planned in the future.

During the game’s first year, Ubisoft plans to add 12 maps and 12 new weapons, spread across four seasons of content.

Each character (called “Defiant”) will have access to the standard assortment of lethal and tactical equipment and can choose their own primary and secondary weapons, as well as accessories to complete their array. You can even change it on the fly after respawning.

However, unique abilities also charge over time. From self-healing to powerful shields, different classes (called “Factions” in XDefiant) have access to their own tools.

XDefiant, like a few other team-based FPS games, will feature 6v6 game modes, such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Escort. Ubisoft has also promised a large number of unique maps in rotation, so no two games are the same.

The game’s latest trailer shows reactions from the community of content creators who tried out XDefiant during its initial testing phase.

And that’s everything we know about XDefiant at the moment. This article will be updated as the developers give us information on the official release of the game to keep you informed.
