Although XDefiant offers a wide variety of cosmetics for purchase in its store, some players are criticizing the “lazy”designs of certain weapon skins.
In a similar fashion to other live service games, XDefiant provides a plethora of cosmetic content for players to acquire, allowing them to display their style during gameplay. This includes special characters, weapon skins, and customization options for their profiles.
Despite the fact that some of them are sought-after due to their unique style, there has been criticism from players about the Store’s “lazy”designs, which they feel results in the items being overpriced.
User ‘HKG41′ shared a comparison of an MP7 Rare Weapon skin, priced at 700 XCoins, in a Reddit post. This amount is equivalent to $9.99 / £9.99, as the only way to obtain 700 XCoins is by purchasing the 1000 XCoins pack.
The post’s user highlighted that the MP7 SMG skin is essentially identical to its base version. The distinction is so subtle that one player noted they had to “spend a considerable amount of time comparing the two pictures before finally spotting a difference.”
Likewise, a different player mentioned that they had to compare the two versions side by side before realizing there was a discrepancy, even mistaking it for a glitch. However, a player of XDefiant chimed in to clarify that this problem is not limited to the MP7 skin, but also affects the Pre season skins, which they deemed as “really bad.”
Supporting the OP’s statement, user ‘Familiar-Trip-4022’ suggested that developers are aware of the fact that players tend to spend their money on overpriced and unnecessary skins. They also added that the developers are probably trying to figure out the minimum effort they can put into creating these skins in order to maximize their profits.
Some players brought up the fact that XDefiant’s store skins have very minimal changes and are not very noticeable when equipped.
Despite the game being free-to-play, XDefiant fans believe that this should not result in “greedy and lazy skins that are way too overpriced.”Instead, they hope that it will lead to better designs and potentially encourage players to spend money on cosmetic content.
