XDefiant Ranked Play: Rewards, Divisions, Modes, & How It Works

After much anticipation, XDefiant’s Ranked Play mode is now available, featuring seven divisions to progress through. Players can also compete for a spot on the Top 500 leaderboard for boasting rights, as well as earn a variety of exclusive cosmetic rewards. Here is a complete breakdown of what to expect.

After a short Pre-Season, XDefiant Season 1 is now the main focus. The Battle Pass, impressive new weapons, and flashy characters are all highly anticipated, but Season 1 also introduces the game’s Ranked Mode.

The most dedicated FPS players are capable of entering the 4v4 playlist, where they compete in a highly competitive setting compared to casual play. By doing so, you have the opportunity to rank up, earn unique rewards, and possibly secure a spot among the Top 500 players worldwide.

Before diving in, here’s a complete explanation of how Ranked Mode operates in XDefiant.

XDefiant’s Ranked Mode

In XDefiant, Ranked Mode is designed to be the competitive alternative to casual matches. This is where victories hold significant weight and your individual performance is crucial.

Playing well and consistently achieving kills, dealing damage, controlling objectives, and ultimately winning matches, will lead to a gradual increase in your Skill Rating. This will result in facing tougher opponents as your Skill Rating rises. The Skill Rating system consists of seven divisions, starting from Bronze and progressing all the way to Legends, as explained further below.

You can climb the ranks in XDefiant by performing well and winning matches.

Teams can queue together as full squads of four up to the Diamond rank, as long as no individual player’s Skill Rating exceeds the squad’s average by more than 15 levels. However, once you reach Diamond, you can only queue solo or as part of a Duo.

Ranked Mode Divisions

XDefiant’s Ranked Mode features seven unique tiers, each consisting of 10 levels that must be completed in order to progress to the next division.

The complete breakdown is listed as follows:

  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Ruby
  • Emerald
  • Diamond
  • Legends

Rank resets ocur with each new season, dropping everyone back down to either Bronze or Silver.

Reaching the Legends division is an impressive accomplishment in itself, but the challenge doesn’t end there. XDefiant’s Ranked Mode features a Top 500 leaderboard, motivating top players from around the globe to constantly enhance their Skill Rating.

During Season 1, the Top 500 leaderboard cannot be seen in-game but is only accessible through sporadic developer blog posts.

Game Types for XDefiant Ranked Mode

At launch, XDefiant’s Ranked mode offered four playable game types, with an additional one being added to the mix at the end of July 2024. These game types are listed below:

  • Occupy
  • Domination
  • Zone Control
  • Escort
  • Capture The Flag

Despite functioning similarly to casual play, Escort mode features no alterations; however, the other three game modes have been slightly modified to increase their competitiveness in a competitive environment.

“While playing Occupy, the zones no longer rotate randomly. However, in Ranked Play, the zones follow a predetermined pattern, allowing your team to anticipate and strategize for the next zone if you are clever enough.”

The Domination game mode has been updated to extend the game time. Each side now has five minutes before switching, in an effort to prevent any arguments about which side of the map is more advantageous.

Finally, Zone Control allows defenders to reset the capture progress to the closest quarter of the circle. This means that if the attacking team wants to gain control of a portion of the objective, they will have to work hard for it.

It is important to note that the newly introduced Capture The Flag (CTF) mode joined the Ranked Mode a few weeks after its initial inclusion in casual playlists. Additionally, as Season 1 brings the arrival of Bomb, XDefiant’s version of Call of Duty’s Search and Destroy game mode, it is highly likely that this mode will also be added to the Ranked mix once any issues have been resolved.
