XDefiant Season 2 Launch Date

XDefiant Season 2 is scheduled to launch on Tuesday, September 24. This date has been anticipated for a while, confirmed by the Season 1 Battle Pass countdown.

Far Cry’s Highwaymen Faction Joins XDefiant

In line with previous leaks, Ubisoft has confirmed that the Highwaymen from Far Cry are the next to join the FPS. This eclectic group from 2019’s New Dawn comes equipped with two unique pieces of equipment and a singular ultimate ability that could dramatically influence match outcomes.

First up is the M79 Grenade Launcher. This weapon has a significant cooldown owing to its potential damage output, and it’s advisable to use it from a distance, as it can eliminate enemies and destroy other equipment effectively. Keep in mind that you only have two shots before it enters cooldown.

The M79 Grenade Launcher is most effective from a distance.

Next is the Scrap Turret, an automated machine gun that targets any enemies in its line of sight. While this turret is useful for inflicting damage, it also serves as an alert system for enemies who may be outside your direct view.

The Scrap Turret will likely annoy opposing teams.

Finally, we have the ultimate ability, the Saw Launcher. Effective at close range, this weapon fires saw blades that can bounce off surfaces multiple times, allowing you to potentially eliminate enemies around corners if aimed correctly.

The Saw Launcher can quickly take down enemy teams.

Additionally, the Highwaymen Faction features a new passive ability called Revved. This ability enhances fast-paced gameplay, increasing rate of fire and reload speed after consecutive kills.

One kill will provide a minor boost, while two grants a more substantial increase, and achieving four consecutive kills maximizes the effect. However, dying will reset this ability.

The three new characters in this Faction include:

  • Paul
  • Li’l T

Three New Maps

Developers have confirmed that three new maps will be introduced in XDefiant, with only one map available at the Season 2 launch.

Waterfront will be playable upon Season 2’s release, while Signal and Air & Space will be introduced later in the season. Expect a new map to roll out every few weeks to keep gameplay engaging.

New Game Mode: Bomb!

After considerable demand, XDefiant is finally introducing its own version of a bomb defusal mode. Similar to the mechanics seen in Counter-Strike and Call of Duty’s Search and Destroy, Bomb will be a single-life, round-based, attack-and-defend style mode that FPS enthusiasts will recognize.

Launching with Season 2, this 6v6 mode will initially be available in casual play while developers refine the format, prior to its entry into Ranked matches as a 4v4 mode.

New Weapons: SMG, LMG, and Shotgun

Three new weapons are being added to XDefiant’s arsenal in the Season 2 update, all available for free through the new Battle Pass.

First up is the PP-19 SMG, the fifth SMG introduced in the game, known for its powerful damage and accuracy. It boasts the highest damage potential among SMGs, with a large magazine size and manageable recoil for consistent targeting.

Next, we have the L86 LSW LMG. This weapon may initially appear as a traditional LMG, but its characteristics are more akin to an assault rifle, featuring quicker movement and aim down sights (ADS) speed along with a smaller magazine.

Completing the trio is the SPAS-12, a legendary shotgun known for its formidable power in close-quarters encounters.

Private Matches and Quality-of-Life Enhancements

In terms of additional features for Season 2, we definitely know Private Matches are on the way, although an exact date has yet to be confirmed. Their introduction will enable community competitions and grassroots tournaments to be conducted more effectively.

Private Matches will initially launch in Beta, so players should be prepared for potential issues as developers continue to refine the feature.

Furthermore, the Season 2 roadmap outlines enhancements to mantling, player collision, and footstep audio, among other improvements. The ranked mode will also finally feature a Top 500 leaderboard directly accessible in-game, allowing competitive players to vote on maps moving forward.

That’s everything coming at the launch of XDefiant Season 2 on September 24. We will be sure to provide updates on any last-minute changes as the launch date approaches.
