Recently, a heated discussion erupted on social media regarding the title of the first mainstream streamer, igniting controversy when xQc publicly disagreed with PlaqueBoyMax’s assertion that Adin Ross was the pioneer.
On January 31, during a Twitch stream, FaZe member PlaqueBoyMax expressed his views, stating emphatically: “Adin was the first n**ga doing it for Twitch a hundred percent bro. Adin was before Kai and Speed. I mean Speed was really blowing up that same year but not like Adin was.”
This claim quickly drew criticisms on Twitter. Users pointed out the significance of Ninja’s contributions, with one remarking, “Ninja doesn’t exist?” Another noted, “Ninja had Drake on stream before having rappers on stream was a big deal, ” underscoring Ninja’s pioneering role in integrating mainstream celebrities into streaming.
xQc’s Perspective on Streaming History
In response, xQc joined the conversation, asserting that Ninja should hold the title of the first mainstream streamer. He tweeted, “The rewriting of live streaming history has to stop. Ninja was the first AND the only one to go mainstream and nothing even comes close. It took YEARS before getting anywhere where Ninja was at, ” reinforcing the argument from a historical perspective.
Looking back to March 2018, Ninja garnered significant attention by streaming Fortnite with global music icons Drake and Travis Scott, while Adin Ross started his streaming journey later, in October 2018. Ninja’s milestones, such as guest appearances on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, were pivotal moments that predated Adin’s rise to fame.
Amidst the debates, fellow FaZe member StableRonaldo humorously contended that another streamer, LosPollos, should be credited as the first to achieve mainstream success. In a jesting tweet, he stated:
The rewriting of live streaming history has to stop.@LosPollosTV was the first AND the only one to go mainstream and nothing even comes close. It took YEARS before getting anywhere where LosPollos was at.https://t.co/N1OYyLQ1OJ

LosPollos began his streaming career in 2014, and notable personalities within the streaming community, including Jynxzi and YourRage, have acknowledged him as a fundamental figure in their early viewing experiences.
While xQc may not have originally achieved mainstream status, he has definitely solidified his position as one of the most prominent streamers today, ranking among the top 20 most followed channels on Twitch.
For those interested in the dynamics of streaming culture, this ongoing debate not only reflects personal opinions, but also emphasizes the rapid evolution of the gaming and streaming landscape. As new names rise in popularity, discussions about historical milestones will likely continue to thrive.
