This episode of Yakuza Fiancé centers on Kirishima’s complex personality and his perspective towards anyone who comes close to Yoshino, which she later recognizes as jealousy.

The anime adaptation stays true to the manga, featuring a steady flow of three chapters per episode. However, episode 4 took creative liberties, omitting some panels from chapters 10 and 11.

Yakuza Fiancé episode 4 opens with Shouma outside the hotel, enjoying a smoke, when he unexpectedly runs into Kirishima. Shouma reserved this hotel for himself, allowing Yoshino to rest in their room. Kirishima inquires about Yoshino, suggesting he might have been following her and drops hints regarding his desire to marry her.

Shouma, feeling suspicious, confronts Kirishima about involving Yoshino in his ambitions.

Kirishima responds candidly, sharing his intent to marry Yoshino, despite Shouma’s disapproval. The dialogue intensifies as Kirishima insinuates deeper political maneuvers concerning Yoshino, orchestrated by the chairman, while revealing his strategy to remain close to her mingled with a disquieting readiness to comply with orders.

Shouma cannot shake off the unsettling smile of Kirishima, sensing his lack of genuine feeling, leading to doubts about Kirishima’s true intentions.

As frustration builds, Yoshino steps outside and finds the two engaged in conversation. She questions Kirishima’s unexpected visit and uncovers that he has been tracking her through a cloned phone, despite her efforts to turn off his GPS.

Annoyed, she demands that Kirishima communicate more straightforwardly rather than stalk her in secrecy. Feeling discomfort at Kirishima’s actions, Shouma suggests Yoshino return to Osaka with him. Kirishima, however, maintains that he is a more suitable match for her.

A brief argument erupts, leading Yoshino to assert her independence by telling Shouma to go back to Osaka without her. The following morning, she sees him off at the station.

Concerned for her safety due to Kirishima’s unpredictable behavior, Shouma expresses his worries, while they discuss Yoshino’s firm stance on her beliefs.

Yoshino emphasizes her willingness to risk everything for her principles, contrasting her values with Shouma’s. Their conversation takes a lighter note as Shouma discovers a breadcrumb stuck on Yoshino, but he cautions her to act wisely and commits to investigating the chairman’s true motives upon his return.

The farewell between them is heartfelt, with Shouma promising to stay in touch, all while Kirishima watches discreetly from a distance.

Later, on the train heading to school, Yoshino senses Kirishima’s jealousy regarding her bond with Shouma and addresses him directly. The tension diminishes as they share their respective plans and acknowledge their mutual distrust.

However, Yoshino soon falls ill with a high fever, prompting Kirishima to rush her to the hospital for medical attention.

The episode wraps up with a conversation between Kirishima and Yoshino’s Yakuza grandfather concerning her future, which Shouma secretly overhears.

Episode 4 of Yakuza Fiancé shifts its narrative focus away from the growth of Yoshino and Kirishima’s relationship, honing in instead on Kirishima’s emotions while simultaneously showcasing his self-centered and violent tendencies, particularly in his interactions with Shouma.

The pacing of the episode remained constant, adapting three chapters faithfully, although it omitted key panels from chapter 10 and parts featuring Yoshino and Kirishima from chapter 11.

While the animation quality had been stable throughout previous episodes, there was a minor decline during scenes with Shouma and Yoshino, where the characters appeared noticeably different from their manga illustrations.

Even with this drop, the quality issues were not as severe as what might be expected from Studio Deen, particularly in light of their previous adaptation of Seven Deadly Sins.

The voice acting remained strong, yet the overall sound design and musical themes felt lackluster.

Final Thoughts

The next episode of Yakuza Fiancé is slated for release on November 4, 2024, and will be available for streaming on Crunchyroll as part of the Fall 2024 lineup. Episode 4 adapted chapters 9, 10, and 11, so fans who wish to continue the storyline can begin reading from chapter 12.
