YG Criticized For Outdated Concept of BABYMONSTER’s Upcoming Comeback

In recent times, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding the talents and visuals of BABYMONSTER. Despite this, it has been pointed out that the group not only needs a strong song to establish themselves, but also needs to work on refining their concept. Many fans and critics have noted that BABYMONSTER’s style seems to be a blend of 2NE1 and BLACKPINK that has not been executed effectively.

YG has just unveiled a poster announcing the highly anticipated comeback of the group on July 1. Titled “Forever,”the new single will mark the return of the 7 “monsters”after a gap of 3 months since their debut mini album. For this release, BABYMONSTER will embrace a more feminine and elegant concept. The group can be seen in the poster donning sleek black ensembles, adorned with glittering silver accents and intricate embellishments, showcasing their stunning visuals.

Despite BABYMONSTER’s attempts to rebrand, their new image has been met with criticism from Korean netizens. Many have commented that it resembles a style from the early 2010s, leading to comparisons with their senior group BLACKPINK. While BLACKPINK is known as a global fashion icon, BABYMONSTER has been deemed too cheesy in their fashion choices.

Despite their undeniable talent, BABYMONSTER has never truly shined the way their seniors did due to their outdated concepts. As a result, numerous posts detailing YG’s role in shaping the group’s image have gone viral on various Kpop forums, eliciting sympathy from commenters.

Earlier this year, there were rumors that YG does not currently have a creative director, causing further disappointment among fans of BABYMONSTER. This puts the group at a disadvantage, as the beauty standards in Kpop are constantly evolving and require entertainment companies to keep up with trends. Developing unique images and concepts is a crucial aspect that companies like SM and HYBE prioritize. Popular groups such as aespa and NewJeans have also established their own “concept universe”. If YG continues to struggle, it will be challenging for BABYMONSTER to establish their own identity and escape the shadow of BLACKPINK.
