YG Entertainment Has Surrendered G-Dragon’s Stage Name Trademark Rights Without Compensation

On August 1st, a report by TenAsia stated that YG Entertainment (hereinafter referred to as YG) has chosen to transfer the trademark ownership of stage names such as “G-Dragon” and “GD” to G-Dragon himself. This decision was made by YG due to G-Dragon’s significance as an artist and the fact that his personal identity is reflected in the name “G-Dragon” . Consequently, G-Dragon will have the liberty to use the name “G-Dragon” for his solo endeavors in the future.

In a similar update, Galaxy Corporation, the agency representing G-Dragon, stated, “We have been informed that the trademark ‘G-Dragon’ has been transferred. There are no concerns with us continuing to use the name G-Dragon.”As trademark ownership is typically regarded as a significant form of intellectual property (IP), YG’s choice is anticipated to be documented as a significant precedent in the field.
