Despite the widespread backlash from K-pop fans over the idol deepfakes, YG Entertainment took notice and responded with its own perspective on the matter.
On September 2, YG Entertainment issued an official announcement in response to the online deepfakes featuring its artists. The company acknowledged the existence of inappropriate AI-generated content and declared their intent to take appropriate measures.
YG stated that they are regularly monitoring for any malicious online activities and taking necessary actions to remove or block such content. Additionally, the company warned that legal measures will be taken against any illegal posts. See the agency’s complete statement below:
“Hello. This is YG Entertainment.
We are seriously worried about the situation where inappropriate deepfake (AI-based synthetic video) content is being created and circulated involving our artists.
We are continuously monitoring widespread and malicious illegal activities to remove or block illegal content, as we are looking forward to taking all possible legal actions, including criminal proceedings.
We will continue to take strong legal action against any illegal doings that seriously harm the dignity and reputation of our artists.
Thank you.”
