In 2011, YG Entertainment, renowned for its groundbreaking methods in the K-pop scene, announced its goal of producing the next major girl groups in the industry. The CEO of the company disclosed plans for two separate groups: the Next Girlgroup (NGG) and the Future 2NE1 (F21), both with their own distinct style and charm.
The NGG was originally conceptualized to be a captivating and multi-talented group, reminiscent of the widely acclaimed SNSD but incorporating YG’s unique style. Conversely, F21 strived to epitomize the confident and powerful image first pioneered by 2NE1, taking it to greater heights.
Initially known as “Pink Punk,”the NGG project brought together nine gifted trainees who were born between 1994 and 1998. However, the group encountered a series of obstacles, such as health problems, personal challenges, and training inadequacies, which resulted in delays and setbacks.
Private issues, including health concerns and personal problems, caused a number of trainees to leave the group. As a result, the group’s size decreased significantly, eventually resulting in the creation of BLACKPINK as we know it today, with members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa.
Despite facing obstacles, former members of Pink Punk, such as Miyeon, achieved triumph in the form of groups like (G)I-DLE, where they were able to display their skills and receive acknowledgement in the field. Meanwhile, Jinny Park and Euna Kim chose alternative routes by taking part in survival programs and ultimately making their debut in fresh groups.
Despite F21’s debut plans being put on hold, YG Entertainment persisted in their pursuit of innovative girl groups, resulting in the formation of BABYMONSTER, their newest addition to the world of K-pop.
The evolution from NGG and F21’s ambitious plans to the rise of BLACKPINK and BABYMONSTER highlights the constantly changing and dynamic nature of the K-pop industry, where success is driven by talent, determination, and adaptability.
Additionally, the recent contract extension between BLACKPINK and YG Entertainment has resulted in a significant 30% rise in YG’s stock prices. Experts in finance are showing confidence in the company’s future, predicting that the impact of the contract will exceed initial forecasts.
Despite ongoing negotiations for individual contracts, fans can expect BLACKPINK to end their hiatus in the fourth quarter of 2024 with a highly anticipated new album and live performances. This timing coincides with projected sales increases in 2025, making the group’s return even more exciting for their loyal supporters.
