Yong Junhyung’s Perspective on Involvement in ‘Burning Sun’ Scandal

In an official statement, Yong Junhyung, who has been implicated in the “Burning Sun”documentary, has finally addressed the issue and shared the “truth”about his role in the scandal.

On June 12, Yong Junhyung, formerly of BEAST, posted a statement on his personal Instagram addressing his alleged involvement in the “Burning Sun Gate”controversy.

The case resurfaced as a major point of discussion after BBC aired a documentary exposing the horrific actions of the main culprits, including Seungri and Jung Joon Young, towards their victims.

During that period, the individuals in the KakaoTalk group chat were known for sharing “molkas”(illegally recorded videos), with particular focus on Yong Junhyung, a solo artist and the current romantic partner of HyunA.

In 2019, during the investigation, it was uncovered that Yong was not a member of the group chat. However, it was confirmed that he did receive “molkas.”

Yong clarified the information about this for the first time in five years. In a lengthy statement, he revealed his stance on the matter.

“Hello, this is Yong Junhyung.

At the time, I was clearly foolish and wrong. I failed to correct my mistake, not knowing which one was the right choice.

Amid the overheated criticism and with a scared heart, I apologized to the company and the members. I didn’t want to inflict more harm because of me, so I was prepared to lose everything from the place that was so precious to me, where I had worked for so many years and chose to leave the group.”

At this point, Yong recounted the actual events that occurred when he received the video and elaborated:

“I clicked on the videos that were sent to my personal messenger without any explanation on a black screen, so I couldn’t tell what it was or what the intention was until I clicked on it to check it.

Later, I could have said, ‘Stop, this is not right,’ but I wasn’t someone who could say things like that so I just glossed it over.

However, as I mentioned then and insisted later, I NEVER entered the group chat room and was not involved in the incident where unspeakable things happened.”

Despite years of being falsely labeled as involved in the case, Yong continued to voice his complaints about the injustice he suffered.

“Through the years, the media and people have been saying countless times, ‘I am one of the people in that case as a member of the chat room,’ and ‘I consumed illegally filmed video. I insisted that it was not true, but no one, no article separated me from them and I ended up becoming someone like them, someone I had no relationship with.”

Ultimately, he chose to speak out now in order to protect those he cares about, alluding to HyunA, his girlfriend, who has faced significant criticism for being in a relationship with him.

Yong went on to say:

“I didn’t have the confidence to bring up the past and talk about it again, and I couldn’t muster the courage and spent the whole time ignoring it, thinking that all would just pass. Even if I get hurt repeatedly, I will just endure it and persevere.

However, I ask you earnestly. I hope that everyone including my family, the people that I love and care about, as well as the fans who look at me despite my shortcomings will not get hurt anymore.”

He specifically asked the media for this, assuring them that he would put in more effort to grow and develop into a more mature individual.
