“Yoo Ah-in Hairstylist Fined 5 Million Won for Marijuana Use”

On October 28th, Newsis reported that Judge Yoo Dong-gyun of the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 24 imposed a penalty on Kim Woo-jun for breaching the Narcotics Control Act related to marijuana. On October 24th, he was ordered to pay a fine of 5 million won and undertake a 40-hour rehabilitation program focused on drug education.

Kim Woo-jun, who has garnered a following of 310,000 subscribers on YouTube, gained recognition as the hairstylist for the well-known actor Yoo Ah-in, sharing vlogs and various other content online. He faced accusations of consuming marijuana during a trip to the United States in January of the previous year, accompanied by Yoo Ah-in and three other friends.

In July of last year, Kim publicly admitted to the allegations via his YouTube community page, stating, “It is accurate that I was involved in a marijuana-related case with a prominent celebrity, which has now been referred to prosecution.”

The court’s ruling noted, “The defendant used marijuana multiple times during the overseas trip with his companions. Nonetheless, he has fully accepted responsibility for his actions and cooperated completely with the investigation. He was influenced by others to try marijuana, and considering the small quantity he consumed, it is challenging to characterize his usage as habitual.”

In contrast, Yoo Ah-in is currently undergoing trial for allegations of utilizing several medications, including propofol, midazolam, and ketamine, a total of 181 times from September 2020 to March 2022, under the guise of cosmetic treatment. He has also been charged with smoking marijuana three times in January of last year. Furthermore, from May 2021 until August of last year, he illegally procured 1,100 sleeping pills like Stilnox and Xanax using another individual’s identity across 44 transactions. In his initial trial, Yoo Ah-in received a one-year prison sentence and remains incarcerated, with his appeal trial set to commence on October 29th.
