Yoo Ah-in Sells Itaewon House Below Asking Price Amid Controversies
On November 29, BizHankook reported that actor Yoo Ah-in’s Itaewon property was sold for 6.3 billion KRW on November 20, significantly less than the 8 billion KRW originally sought three years ago.
A Brief History of the Property
Yoo Ah-in acquired the three-story standalone house, which includes a basement and occupies a land area of 337㎡ (with a total floor space of 418.26㎡), in February 2016. The purchase was made through his personal agency, “YU Company LLC” , at a price of 5.8 billion KRW. The home garnered attention after being featured on MBC’s popular variety show, “I Live Alone” , in 2020. Following the show’s airing, the actor relocated to Hannam-dong. Amidst allegations of habitual drug use, he listed the property in Itaewon-dong, seeking a sale price of 8 billion KRW.
Details of the Recent Sale
The recent transaction indicates a hurried sale, with the property changing hands for 1.7 billion KRW less than the original asking price. Despite the sale being finalized, the identity of the buyer remains undisclosed, as official ownership transfer documents have yet to be submitted to the court.
Legal Issues Surrounding the Property
It has come to light that the house was sold under the designation of a “violating structure.” Documentation reveals that Yoo Ah-in had expanded the property’s first floor by an unauthorized 10.8㎡, which included installing additional windows. This violation was flagged by the Yongsan-gu Office during an inspection in August 2017. Despite receiving a corrective order, Yoo Ah-in’s agency failed to revert the renovations for over seven years. Consequently, the new owner may face penalties or be required to restore the property to its original specifications.
Upcoming Court Proceedings Related to Drug Use Allegations
In related news, Yoo Ah-in’s case concerning allegations of habitual drug use is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on December 24. During this session, the prosecution will lay out its final arguments and sentencing recommendations, while Yoo Ah-in will be afforded an opportunity to make a concluding statement. The court’s decision is anticipated to be released early in the new year, approximately one month following the hearing.
