Yoo In-na Recalls Kim Eun-sook’s Instant Approval During ‘Goblin’ Audition

On September 18th, actress Yoo In-na made a guest appearance on the popular YouTube channel “Drunken Impersonator” .

During her visit, she shared how she began her career saying, “I made my debut through ‘High Kick! Through the Roof’.” She elaborated on her audition experience, noting, “The audition for ‘High Kick! Through the Roof’ was a significant event that every trainee participated in. Subsequently, I also auditioned for ‘Secret Garden’. I was so nervous at the time that I didn’t even realize writer Kim Eun-sook was right in front of me. After I auditioned, many others followed, but I heard that the writer said, ‘That’s it. We’ve found Ah-young.’ During the script reading, they noted my performance was quite exceptional. Since childhood, I have always loved participating in story-reading contests and anything related to reading aloud.”

Yoo In-na, who later starred in writer Kim Eun-sook’s hit drama “Goblin” , reminisced, “After many years since I auditioned for another of writer Kim Eun-sook’s works, I was incredibly anxious. Normally, I don’t sweat much, but after the audition, my clothes were completely soaked from the tension.”

She continued, “There’s a line where my character says, ‘Then today is our first day’ to a part-time worker. It’s a sweet line, so I delivered it softly; however, the writer told me, ‘No, that’s not it,’ and provided a detailed explanation about my character’s background. At that moment, she asked me, ‘Do you want to try again?’ I experimented with many different interpretations. Once it was all over, the writer said, ‘It was nice meeting you,’ which led me to believe I didn’t get the role. However, as soon as I left, she remarked, ‘Yes, that’s her.’”

Expressing her heartfelt gratitude, Yoo In-na disclosed the dedication she demonstrated in perfecting her role, saying, “I was fortunate to portray such a character because writer Kim Eun-sook chose me. I even recorded Sunny’s lines a hundred different ways, utilizing the script and the feedback from the writers to enhance the performance.”
