Recently marking his 40th birthday, Yoo Yeon-seok shared his insights during an interview held on January 6 at the Starship Entertainment headquarters in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul. The conversation included his views on marriage and a glance back at his successful acting career.
Current Role in “When The Phone Rings”
Yoo Yeon-seok is currently captivating audiences in the romantic thriller “When The Phone Rings.” This drama portrays a marriage of convenience that progresses under the strain of a threatening phone call, bringing tensions to the fore. In the series, he plays Baek Sa-eon, a young spokesperson for the President’s office entangled in a three-year show-window marriage.

Excitement for Future Projects
Looking towards his upcoming projects, Yoo Yeon-seok expressed enthusiasm about branching into new genres. “I’m particularly eager to explore comedy. My next project, ‘God and Law Office,’ promises to be a human comedy, and I can’t wait to dive in,” he shared.
Career Reflections and Nicknames
Reflecting on his past decade, Yoo remarked, “I spent my 30s actively pursuing my craft. Fans affectionately call me ‘Yeon-So’ (a blend of my name and ‘so’), which is a badge of honor for me as an actor. Having a nickname in this field is truly meaningful.” With a playful twist, he added, “This time around, I even attempted to coin the nickname ‘Sexy Eyebrows’ for myself.”

He also noted the profound impact that earning nicknames through his roles has had on his career, stating, “It’s a significant achievement to earn a nickname from a project, and surpassing that success is challenging. The memorable characters I’ve portrayed in my 20s and 30s have paved the way for my career as I step into my 40s with a sense of optimism rather than apprehension.”
Thoughts on Marriage and Communication
In discussing his role alongside Chae Soo-bin in “When The Phone Rings,” Yoo Yeon-seok addressed his personal views on marriage. “I believe deeply in the importance of communication and connection. I haven’t found the right partner yet, but I know that being able to converse openly is essential in any romantic relationship,” he explained.
He elaborated, “This project reinforced my belief that communication is key. I aspire to marry someone with whom I can engage in enjoyable conversations and share a joyful connection.”
