In a recent phone interview with DJ Son Tae-jin on MBC’s Standard FM program “Son Tae-jin’s Trot Radio” on October 23, renowned singer Yoon Soo-il shared his thoughts on the excitement surrounding Rosé’s latest single “APT.” which features the talented Bruno Mars.
As interest in “APT.” grows, Son Tae-jin pointed out the renewed popularity of Yoon Soo-il’s classic track “Apartment.” He inquired about Yoon Soo-il’s reaction to this revival. Yoon Soo-il responded, “I’ve noticed the buzz online and heard from various sources. After listening to both tracks, I found the concepts presented by Rosé and Bruno Mars quite impressive.” He complimented the innovation displayed by his younger peers.
Additionally, he expressed, “It’s wonderful to see a theme like ‘apartment’ resonate on a global scale,” indicating his pride in the achievements of emerging artists.
Yoon Soo-il remarked, “There’s nearly a 40-year difference between our musical eras. The vibe from four decades ago is starkly different from today’s sound, and trends in music have evolved tremendously.” He added, “While Rosé’s piece is catchy, with a fantastic hook that makes it addictive, I must also share that ‘Apartment’ dominated karaoke charts for a decade back in its heyday.”
Yoon Soo-il elaborated, stating, “I aimed for a straightforward melody in ‘Apartment.’ Despite its somewhat lonely theme, it has been enjoyed as a sing-along anthem, which wasn’t exactly my intent, yet I see it as a unique strength of the song.”
Since the 1980s, “Apartment” has captured the hearts of many and is often performed at baseball matches and university celebrations, proving its timeless appeal across generations.
