Similarly to many other shonen anime and manga works, Demon Slayer draws influence from established titles that have popularized certain tropes. Additionally, it also pays homage to long-standing shows that have made significant contributions to this medium.
There is evidence to suggest that this anime and manga series has drawn inspiration from Akira Toriyama’s masterpiece, Dragon Ball. It is possible that Yoriichi Tsukiguni, the renowned swordsman, was influenced by Goku, the main character in Toriyama’s work.
It appears that these two characters have one common trait: their exceptional growth in battle, which sets them apart from others.

Demon Slayer: Yoriichi’s Character and His Inspiration from Goku’s Super Saiyan Transformation
Is this guy having the mark always on his face kinda like goku being in constant super saiyan? byu/delo357 inKimetsuNoYaiba
Yoriichi stands out as the most powerful demon hunter in the series, with no other character coming close to matching his impressive feats. He possesses a natural talent that sets him apart, and he even came close to single-handedly defeating Kibutsuji Muzan. One of his most notable characteristics is his constant possession of the Demon Slayer Mark, unlike other characters who can only activate it in specific circumstances during combat.
There is speculation among fans that this may be comparable to Goku’s mastery of the Super Saiyan transformation. During their training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Goku and Gohan were able to achieve the Super Saiyan form with great efficiency.
Goku’s training enabled him to remain in the Super Saiyan form for an unlimited amount of time. This was an accomplishment that few could claim, as achieving this specific transformation was already a difficult task. His proficiency in being able to eat, rest, and continue training in this state demonstrated his exceptional talent and dedication.
Yoriichi’s base form was similar to the transformation that others could activate in specific situations, which could have been inspired by this section of Dragon Ball and implemented by Koyoharu Gotouge. Additionally, Yoriichi was the first swordsman to create Breathing Techniques and develop a style specifically designed to defeat Kibutsuji Muzan.
The form was both elegant and highly effective due to its consideration of Muzan’s unique anatomy. As a demon, he possesses not only one heart and one brain, but seven hearts and five brains. This is the reason for the 13 forms of the Sun Breathing Technique, each targeting a vital organ in his body. The 13th form combines all previous forms, executed one after another.
Yoriichi’s Demon Slayer Mark was unique as he was the only known survivor to have lived past the age of 25. Some speculate that this connection to Goku from Dragon Ball could be seen as an exception. Although the mangaka has not confirmed this, it is possible that the manga artist drew inspiration from Goku’s form and incorporated certain aspects into Yoriichi’s character.
Keep an eye out for additional updates on anime and manga as the year 2024 unfolds.
