Chapter 175 of Chainsaw Man was truly a masterpiece. It showcased a powerful rampage from Chainsaw Man after consuming and erasing octopus, mouth, snow, and bitterness. Although it may have seemed strange at first, Tatsuki Fujimoto added a unique twist by making the chapter completely free of dialogue.
Dialogue is a crucial aspect of a story and often serves as the driving force. However, in this particular instance, Fujimoto’s mastery as a mangaka is exemplified through the beloved character Yoru. Despite the absence of spoken words, the War Fiend’s emotions are powerfully conveyed through the erasure of mouths by the Hero of Hell, showcasing one of the greatest feats achieved by Fujimoto.
Yoru’s Emotions in Chainsaw Man Chapter 175 Showcase Fujimoto’s Skill as a Mangaka
In Chainsaw Man chapter 175, Fujimoto’s skill as a top manga artist is evident even without any dialogue. The chapter depicts the aftermath of the Hero of Hell’s consumption of the Mouth Devil, as he rampages through the city and eliminates Devils in his path.
This resulted in the disappearance of every individual’s mouth, including Yoru’s. She saw this as an opportunity to confront the one she had been yearning to face. With a massive sword in hand, she leapt from above to catch him off guard. However, her attempt proved futile as she found herself on her knees, bleeding out and still trying to comprehend the events that had just unfolded.
In chapter 175 of Chainsaw Man, there is a close-up panel of her eyes that captures a beautifully crafted, enigmatic expression. The interpretation of this expression is left open for now, and could potentially convey a range of emotions such as fear, shock, disbelief, anger, or even a twisted sense of pleasure. Fujimoto’s exceptional work in concluding this battle is truly commendable and will surely please fans.
Before the events of Chainsaw Man chapter 175, Yoru’s sole objective was to defeat Chainsaw Man and regain control of the nuclear weapons, in order to regain her former power. This was because Yoru, also known as the War Devil and one of the Four Horsemen, had been severely weakened after their confrontation with Pochita in Hell. As a result, she constantly sought out opportunities to confront and provoke Pochita.
In short, she was eager to have a rematch with the Hero of Hell. However, when the moment finally arrived, Yoru was swiftly defeated. The battle seemed to be over before it even started. Needless to say, this was not the result she had anticipated. As she was brought to her knees, she was overwhelmed with surprise, fear, confusion, and even rage. Fujimoto could sense the intensity of these emotions.
Readers were able to experience all of this through the perspective of Yoru’s eyes, which is even more remarkable considering that he did not have the use of his mouth. Portraying emotions solely through the upper half of one’s face is relatively straightforward in motion pictures, but it presents a challenge when it comes to sketching. It is possible that the next chapter will include a flashback to Yoru’s battle with Pochita, in which he may have felt similar emotions to those he is currently experiencing, creating a sense of negative deja vu.
