Young Sheldon Fans Divided by Adult Sheldon & Amy Appearing in Finale

Following seven action-packed seasons, the conclusion of Young Sheldon delighted fans with a special appearance from adult Sheldon (Jim Parsons) after a five-year absence from their screens.

Amidst handling the loss of Sheldon’s father, George, and preparing the young prodigy for his journey to Caltech, the show also delighted fans with a special treat centered around The Big Bang Theory. Viewers were treated to the familiar sight of Sheldon and his wife, Amy Farrah Fowler, bickering just as they did in the original series.

Despite the couple’s inclusion in the series finale, not all fans were pleased. A Reddit user with the username Regular-Abies-9312 expressed their discontent by stating, “I believe the frequent interruptions with old Sheldon and Amy took away from the main plots of the episode – the Cooper family coping with George’s death and Sheldon’s departure for Cal Tech. It would have been better to have two separate episodes dedicated to each plot in order to fully explore and develop them.”

Despite being told that the two shows have a shared DNA and should be treated as separate entities, many fans were in agreement with the user’s point. They expressed their disappointment in the finale for sidelining the YS characters and instead focusing on TBBT’s Amy and Sheldon, who have no connection to the YS audience.

Furthermore, a third individual expressed, “While I understand the inclusion of one scene depicting Sheldon finalizing his memoir, I felt that it detracted from the overall impact of the finale. I was eager to hear Sheldon’s reflections on the fates of the other characters whom we grew to love over the course of 7 years, particularly Dr. Sturgis…instead, it felt like a repetition of the original series.”

Despite this, there were some fans who strongly disagreed with the user’s viewpoint. One fan believed that it was essential to include the characters in the finale, stating that it was “appropriate”because it helped audiences understand the reason behind Adult Sheldon’s narration.

A different fan disagreed and expressed how the inclusion of the original cast brought closure to both Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory. They appreciated how the entire series was narrated by Jim Parsons and found it heartwarming that the cast returned for a small cameo at the end.

“I was filled with joy and a sense of closure when JP made a cameo appearance. The ending of the show left me feeling unsatisfied, but his appearance improved it slightly. The interconnectedness of the two shows was portrayed and concluded in a way that I truly appreciated.”

The major reveal in Young Sheldon, where it is discovered that Sheldon’s narration is actually him writing a memoir, clarifies the reason for the show’s decision to feature adult Sheldon on the small screen. Ultimately, this is his story to share.
