After the passing of George, viewers are reflecting on his memorable moments in Young Sheldon — and he made an important impression from the beginning.
The latest episode of Young Sheldon, Season 7 Episode 12, took fans on an emotional journey as the Coopers discovered the devastating news that George had passed away due to a heart attack while coaching at Medford High School.
Despite George’s death not being a complete shock, thanks to foreshadowing in the prequel and The Big Bang Theory, it has still evoked nostalgia from fans as they remember that George was correct about a crucial aspect.
Long before Sheldon made the decision to attend Caltech for his graduate studies in Season 7, he had previously visited the university in Season 3 to attend a lecture by Stephen Hawking. He was accompanied by George, and together they were introduced to the iconic TBBT canteen set for the first time.
“Just think of all the stimulating conversations that must take place at these tables,”Sheldon tells his father. “I can envision myself coming here in the future.”
George responded, “I believe you would fit in perfectly.”Looking back, George lived to witness Sheldon’s decision to attend Caltech, but not his eventual move there.
In The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon’s journey from having no friends to building a family of companions allows him to mature emotionally. Despite not having anyone to support him after his father’s passing, he is able to provide comfort to others, notably when Howard’s mother passes away.
Nevertheless, the scene also emphasizes the significant discrepancies in how George was portrayed in each show.
“According to a fan on Reddit, George was initially introduced as a minor character in Big Bang Theory to provide background for Sheldon’s family. However, in the last season of TBBT and with the addition of Young Sheldon, the show paid tribute to George and his importance in the storyline. It is worth mentioning that the character of George in Young Sheldon would not exist without the character of George in TBBT.”
It is anticipated that Season 7 Episode 13 will feature George’s funeral, and the subsequent part of the hour-long finale will include a much-anticipated cameo from TBBT actor Jim Parsons.
CBS will air new episodes of Young Sheldon Season 7 until May 16, 2024. In the meantime, there are plenty of other great TV shows to stream this month.
