Despite sounding distinct from the rest of his family on Young Sheldon, Georgie’s voice can be easily explained.
Georgie has been receiving criticism for his apparent lack of friends on the TV show. However, in Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 9, another aspect that sets him apart has been brought to light: his unique manner of speaking.
In Episode 9, Mandy’s mother, Audrey, criticizes Georgie’s speech after overhearing him talking to his daughter Ceecee. This prompts Georgie to try and improve his grammar skills. Fans have certainly noticed that compared to the rest of his family, Georgie has a noticeably thicker accent and a weaker understanding of grammar, which is addressed in the episode.
One might think that this difference would pertain to him and his younger brother Sheldon, who is a genius. However, upon hearing it, one can notice a significant contrast between his speech and that of his sister and mother as well.
It may raise curiosity as to why Georgie speaks differently despite being raised in the same household. However, this is not a plot hole. In fact, there are a couple of simple explanations for this.
One notable aspect is that Montana Jordan, the actor portraying Georgie, hails from Texas. His natural accent has undoubtedly influenced Georgie’s accent on the show, and given that the series is based in Texas, he has naturally emphasized his native way of speaking.
Additionally, there is a plausible explanation: Georgie is not the only one who stands out, rather, it is a deliberate effort from Sheldon and Missy to manipulate their accents. It is evident that Sheldon desires his accent to align with his intelligence, thus he has altered his voice. In contrast, Missy’s focus on popular culture and media has caused her accent to weaken over the years due to external influences.
Similarly, other viewers have also recognized this logic and have voiced their belief that Georgie’s accent is entirely suitable within the show’s context.
According to one comment on Reddit, Sheldon intentionally speaks in a way that does not sound Texan, and Missy is likely influenced by accents and idioms she hears in the media. Another comment added that Montana Jordan, who portrays Georgie on the show, was born and raised in Texas and does not have to act to capture the Texan part of his character.
“Being a native Texan, it’s just the way we talk,”remarked another person. “You can still hear a hint of it in George’s speech, although it’s not as prominent. Missy has a strong fascination with pop culture, having grown up admiring pop icons who lack the typical Texan twang.”
Regardless of whether you have noticed Georgie’s exaggerated accent or not, it is important to become accustomed to it. We will be seeing a significant amount of him when his Young Sheldon sequel is released.
