YouTube extends ad-block crackdown to third-party apps

YouTube is intensifying its efforts to combat the use of ad-block on videos by targeting third-party applications.

For close to a year, YouTube has been taking strict measures against individuals using browser plugins to circumvent ads on videos posted on the platform.

YouTube Premium provides users with ad-free viewing on all platforms and also includes a streaming service for podcasts and music similar to Spotify.

The company’s motivation for this action is to attract a larger number of subscribers to its YouTube Premium subscription. Furthermore, they have persistently implemented stricter measures to combat the use of ad-blockers.

On April 15, 2024, YouTube announced that they will be enhancing their enforcement measures on third-party applications that allow ad-free viewing of YouTube content.

The statement explains that individuals who are utilizing these third-party applications might encounter problems with buffering or encounter the message “The following content is not available on this app”while attempting to view a video.

“It is important to note that our terms strictly prohibit third-party apps from disabling ads, as this would prevent creators from receiving compensation for their content. Ads on YouTube play a crucial role in supporting creators and allowing millions of users worldwide to access the streaming service.”

Despite its popularity, the developers of YouTube ReVanced have not addressed the recent change and its potential impact on the app’s ad-free video viewing capabilities.
