YouTube Introduces Feature Previously Exclusive to Premium Subscribers

YouTube has rolled out a new feature that was once only accessible to Premium subscribers, now making it available to all users on the platform.

At $13.99 per month, YouTube Premium offers various exclusive benefits, such as ad-free video viewing, options for offline downloads, enhanced video quality, and more.

One of the recently tested features, the Sleep Timer, is now accessible to every YouTube user, regardless of their Premium status.

The Sleep Timer functions as expected—it allows you to set a timer that will automatically stop video playback, ensuring that videos won’t continue to play if you doze off or wish to limit your viewing time.

How to Utilize the YouTube Sleep Timer

Activating the Sleep Timer on YouTube is quite simple. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Locate the video you wish to watch.
  2. Tap on the ‘Settings’ icon (found at the top right on mobile and the bottom right on a web browser).
  3. Choose ‘Sleep Timer’ from the menu.
  4. Select your desired time duration for watching.
  5. Resume playing the video.

Activating the Sleep Timer is a straightforward process.

You have various timing options to choose from when using the Sleep Timer, including 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, or 60 minutes, or you can opt for ‘End of Video’ to stop playback at the conclusion of the current video.

As of now, this feature is reportedly available only in the United States, which means users in countries like Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia might have to wait a little longer before it becomes accessible to them.

Users are now eagerly anticipating the addition of more features for the standard YouTube, particularly the Picture-in-Picture mode, which allows you to continue watching videos while multitasking on your mobile device.

Earlier in 2024, YouTube took measures against users attempting to exploit the system by using VPNs to access cheaper Premium subscriptions, with some pretending to be located in countries like Ukraine, where the cost is merely $2.40 per month.
