YouTube has announced that it will be introducing a new generative AI video tool in 2024, enabling content creators to produce 6-second clips by simply entering a text prompt.
According to YouTube’s blog post from September 18, the platform plans to incorporate Google DeepMind’s Veo generative AI video model into YouTube Shorts. This will empower creators to “effortlessly generate a unique clip that seamlessly integrates with the content they’ve already captured.”
Johanna Voolich, YouTube’s chief product officer, further elaborated in the blog, stating that Veo will offer “even more amazing video backgrounds, bringing life to concepts that were once challenging to visualize.”
The chief product officer emphasized that a BookTuber or fashion designer can now share “creative and imaginative design concepts with their audience,” thanks to the evolution of AI-generated content on YouTube.

This feature will be incorporated into the existing Shorts editor on YouTube, and videos created using Veo will be marked with SynthID, ensuring viewers are aware of the AI involvement in the content.
Sarah Ali, a director of product management at YouTube, described the concept of the six-second AI-generated shorts as being “just like it’s footage from [your] camera roll,” reflecting the content creator’s style and vision.
Moreover, YouTube asserts that its initiative to enhance AI tools for content creators will “unlock new forms of expression.”
AI content has made significant strides in the online space in recent years. The rise of ChatGPT and similar tools that replicate the voices and appearances of celebrities has become ubiquitous on platforms like TikTok. Even Netflix has faced scrutiny for employing AI-generated content in its productions.
YouTube is fully embracing this technology, having enlisted some of its most prominent content creators, such as MrBeast, to test its new AI features.
While there is no fixed date for the integration of Veo into YouTube Shorts to facilitate AI-generated clips, we will keep you informed about this exciting development.
