YouTube Premium Users Report Ads on Mobile App Despite Subscription
Users of YouTube Premium are expressing frustration as they continue to encounter advertisements while using the mobile app, despite having subscribed to the ad-free service. This situation has sparked a wave of complaints across platforms like Reddit and Twitter, leading to a growing discussion among subscribers.
YouTube’s Push for Premium Subscriptions
In 2024, YouTube has actively promoted its Premium subscription service, emphasizing a promise of an ad-free viewing experience across all devices when users are logged in. To curb the use of ad blocking tools, the platform has implemented stricter measures, including the integration of ads into video pause screens. This strategy has not only aimed to boost subscriptions but has also drawn criticism from users who feel their viewing experience is compromised.
Recent Complaints from Users
Over the past few months, numerous reports have emerged from users detailing their experiences with advertisements. One Reddit user reported in October that they were forced to watch ads at the beginning of videos while using the mobile application.

YouTube’s Response to User Concerns
In response to these alarming claims, YouTube issued a statement to 9to5Google, asserting that Premium subscribers should not experience any advertisements on the platform. The company encouraged users to contact support if they encounter such issues, reinforcing their position on the benefits that come with the subscription.
YouTube’s statement read, “We occasionally offer YouTube Premium subscribers with exclusive access to a variety of rewards through our trusted partners – which can be found on their benefits page. YouTube Premium subscribers should not be shown any pre- or mid-roll ads and should contact support if this does happen.”
Rising Tensions Over Subscription Costs
This controversy comes on the heels of another significant issue faced by YouTube Premium users in the UK and Europe, where the subscription price surged to $40 a month. This price hike translates to nearly $500 per year, further intensifying user dissatisfaction and prompting discussions about the value of the service in light of the recent ad-related issues.
