YouTube star Ludwig to commentate Olympic Chessboxing

Renowned YouTuber Ludwig Ahgren and Chessboxing champion Mat Thomas have been selected to provide official English commentary for the Chessboxing Exhibition at the 2024 Paris Olympics, a role that they are both thrilled to take on.

The upcoming 2024 Olympics are just around the corner, and organizers have announced a surprising addition to the lineup: Chessboxing.

Chessboxing, as its name suggests, is a unique combination sport that incorporates both chess and boxing. Opponents are challenged to compete against each other on both the chessboard and in the boxing ring, making it a one-of-a-kind experience.

In 2022, well-known YouTuber Ludwig Ahgren openly expressed his love for Chessboxing and organized his own Mogul Chessboxing event, which attracted a peak of 317k viewers.

With his passion for Chessboxing, he has been given the opportunity to take it to the highest level possible – the 2024 Paris Olympics. Alongside fellow Chessboxing enthusiast, Mat Thomas, he will serve as the official commentator for a Chessboxing Exhibition at the event.

Both stars took to Twitter/X to share their excitement about the opportunity, as announced by Ludwig. However, as Ludwig pointed out, the matches will not be aired live and are not currently recognized as an official Olympic sport. They are instead exhibition matches, which will be published on Ludwig’s YouTube channel upon his return from Paris.

In addition, Thomas announced that the fights will be captured on film for a documentary that will be released after the event concludes.

Thomas expressed his excitement for being chosen to provide English commentary alongside @LudwigAhgren for the @Paris2024 Chessboxing Exhibitions tonight. Although the event will not be live broadcasted, @ifc_officiel fights and a documentary on this unique event will be released. He also expressed gratitude to all those who have shown their support for this unusual yet beloved sport.

This exhibition, supported by the Olympic organization, will showcase two matches: Kenza Megzari vs Sneha Waykar and Carl Strugnell vs Valentin Marcel.

Despite the existence of Chessboxing since the 1970s, this event marks a significant moment for the sport as it gains recognition in the international athletic community. The historic event will be led by one of YouTube’s top stars and is set to take place on the night of July 23, 2024.

Ludwig is not the sole YouTuber causing a stir at the 2024 Olympics. Jake Paul has also been selected as an official partner of the Games, with a focus on promoting boxing and generating enthusiasm for the sport during this year’s Olympics. Additionally, he will be educating the top amateur boxing talent from the USA on the significance of honing their skills both inside and outside of the ring.
