James Whomsley, a YouTuber from Britain, has achieved several Guinness World Records by skillfully landing model planes on the largest remote-controlled aircraft carrier ever made.
James Whomsley has been a YouTuber since 2017, when he created his own channel called Project Air.
Whomsley’s initial focus, as described by himself, was on radio control aircraft. However, his content expanded rapidly to include a diverse range of innovative homemade engineering projects, ranging from rockets to hyperloops.
As of now, Whomsley’s channel has nearly 500,000 subscribers. However, with his recent recognition as a Guinness World Record holder, it is expected that this number will continue to increase in the upcoming weeks and months.
The YouTuber broke multiple records, you may be wondering. The first Guinness World Record claimed by Whomsley was for constructing the largest remote-controlled model of an aircraft carrier. The second record was for successfully landing two remote control model planes on the 16.46-foot model carrier.
According to Whomsley, the accomplishment required three months of careful planning and construction. The carrier’s hull was constructed with foam, while the deck was made of wood and reinforced with a fiberglass coating for added support.
To guarantee that the carrier remained lightweight, Whomsley incorporated a coating of expanding foam along the inner seams of the hull to ensure its waterproofing.
In the video, Whomsley can be observed making several attempts to land the remote-controlled planes before ultimately achieving a successful landing on top of the carrier. Although he was able to smoothly land the first plane, the second one proved to be a more challenging task.
Despite crashing his second remote-controlled plane into the water, Whomsley managed to successfully launch his third and last model plane onto the structure.
Upon successfully accomplishing the remarkable achievement, Whomsley shared with the Guinness World Records team, “It’s incredible to have come up with this idea and see it come to fruition.”
The Guinness World Records began in 1955 and has since evolved into a prestigious annual publication featuring a compilation of “world records of human achievements and the limits of the natural world.”
