“It’s very hard to breathe out here,” he stated while recording. “It’s an apocalyptic scene. There’s ash floating through the air. I’ve gotta wear a mask today.”
In his footage, Hicks captured images of buildings reduced to rubble, neighborhoods turned into wastelands, and cars destroyed by the flames. His emotional commentary resonated deeply with viewers.
“This is truly haunting, man,” Hicks expressed as he surveyed a site that was once someone’s home. “The memories and people’s possessions, just gone.”
