A Spanish YouTuber has reportedly faced arrest following accusations of disseminating illegal tutorials on creating explosives and weapons. The content creator, known as Alberto R. H. or ‘AlbertoHRom,’ has disputed the allegations, labeling them as “unfair.”
With a robust following of 1.3 million subscribers, Alberto was taken into custody by the Guardia Civil in Castro Urdiales, a coastal town in Cantabria. The law enforcement operation, characterized as “Operation Sputnik,” targeted his workshop, where authorities asserted he produced large quantities of homemade explosives and weapons, including flamethrowers.
Background on the YouTuber’s Content
Alberto, a 27-year-old industrial engineering student, has been sharing his explosive-making tutorials on YouTube for over ten years. His videos, which include instructions for creating thermite and gunpowder, have attracted millions of views. The investigation into his activities surfaced when anti-terrorist specialists identified his content as part of broader concerns related to arms and explosives trafficking.

Concerns Over Public Safety
Investigators expressed significant alarm regarding Alberto’s workshop, which was set up on his family’s agricultural property. The Civil Guard highlighted serious risks of accidental explosions, presenting imminent dangers not only to Alberto’s life but also to the welfare of his family and nearby residents.
Furthermore, law enforcement officials worried that the proliferation of his tutorials could empower criminal organizations globally. During the raid of his premises, investigators recovered over 20 kilograms of chemical substances earmarked for the illegal production of high-grade explosives, along with digital equipment related to weapon assembly.
Previous Consequences Linked to His Content
Prior to this incident, one of Alberto’s videos led to a conviction in 2022, where an individual was sentenced to 18 months in prison for accessing his tutorials. The ongoing investigation into Alberto has resulted in charges concerning the illegal manufacture of explosives, the risks posed by these explosives, and potential fire hazards in forested regions.
Alberto’s Response to Allegations
In a YouTube video released on December 27, Alberto candidly described his distressing week. “They’re accusing me of something super deep,” he remarked, while acknowledging that authorities had indeed searched his workshop. However, he firmly asserted that the search revealed he was “not a terrorist” and lacked a destructive laboratory.
Alberto emphasized that his video content was never intended to instruct viewers on creating explosives. Instead, he claimed it was meant to entertain and educate. “I think it’s very unfair,” he concluded, expressing his frustration over the situation.
