A decomposed body discovered in the woods by YouTubers is believed to be gunman Joseph Couch. Following the grim finding, the streamers will receive a reward of $25,000.
On Saturday, September 7, Joseph Couch opened fire from a cliff’s edge on Interstate 75 in Laurel County, Kentucky. Couch intended to “kill a lot of people” and succeeded in injuring five victims before fleeing the scene.
After his escape, Couch sought refuge deep in the woods. Local authorities were eager to capture Couch alive; however, a local couple stumbled upon what is presumed to be his lifeless body.
“Guys, if you could smell this right now – OMG. Oh lord, this is nasty. Oh my goodness, this is gross,” said Sheila McCoy during a live YouTube broadcast while her husband and she encountered the decomposed remains.

Shortly after Sheila noted the offensive smell, Fred exclaimed, “Got ‘em! Here he is!” The McCoy couple’s livestream lasted for 30 minutes, abruptly ending when they found the corpse surrounded by vultures.
Even though law enforcement searched for 11 days, it was the YouTube couple who concluded the manhunt on Wednesday, September 18.
“You have to understand, this guy has been stressing this community out,” Fred told CNN. “Anyone who can sit up on top of a hill and take pop shots at cars is dangerous.”
While authorities have not officially confirmed that the deceased individual is Couch, they are highly convinced after discovering his belongings near the body.
“We’re very confident that this brings closure in the search for Joseph Couch,” stated Kentucky State Police Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. “The people of Laurel County can rest. .. much easier knowing that this manhunt has now come to a conclusion.”
On the day Couch fired his weapon, he purchased $3,000 worth of firearms, including an AR-15 with a sight and 1,000 rounds of ammunition.
According to his arrest warrant, Couch had also messaged a contact regarding his intentions: “I’m going to kill a lot of people, we’ll try at least,” followed by, “I’ll kill myself afterwards.”
While officials await confirmation on whether the decomposed body indeed belongs to Couch, the McCoys will receive a $25,000 reward for finding his presumed remains, consisting of $15,000 from Laurel County Crime Stoppers and $10,000 from a private donor.
A similar situation occurred on July 30, when a YouTuber discovered a deceased individual while filming at an abandoned house. The body was found inside a vehicle parked outside and was later retrieved by authorities.
