Yuji could save Megumi in Jujutsu Kaisen but at the cost of awakening an ultimate monster

The release of chapter 256 of Jujutsu Kaisen on April 8, 2024 unveiled that Itadori Yuji may play a significant role in the upcoming chapters as he could potentially trigger an awakening. Additionally, Sukuna’s defeat seems imminent as he was outnumbered and outmatched in terms of strength.

Recently, fans came up with a theory that could potentially prolong the Sukuna cycle by involving Tengen’s merger with humanity. Currently, Sukuna possesses Tengen as Kenjaku transferred the immortal sorcerer to the King of Curses before his death.

Although Yuji was able to separate Megumi from Sukuna’s body, Sukuna still had access to the body of Tengen, which he could potentially use as a vessel. In addition, even if using Tengen as a vessel proved impossible, Sukuna could still activate the great merger since all the necessary conditions had already been met.

In chapter 256, it is revealed that Sukuna is cornered by the sorcerers. The fight is initiated by Yuji and Choso, who attack the King of Curses. However, the latter then turns his attention towards Maki and strikes her with a Black Flash. Furthermore, he employs his cursed technique to temporarily remove her from the fight.

After confronting Choso, Sukuna subjected him to the same punishment. However, the cursed painting resisted and Sukuna was pushed away, prompting Itadori to step in. Meanwhile, Miguel intended to exit the battlefield with Larue, but the latter insisted on completing a task first.

As Itadori readied himself to use a Black Flash against Sukuna, the latter braced for the impact of the technique. However, Sukuna’s focus was abruptly shifted to Larue, who had just unleashed his own cursed technique.

While Sukuna was distracted and not paying attention, Itadori took the opportunity to strike him with a Black Flash. As the narrator announced that Itadori Yuji had unlocked his cursed technique, the chapter came to a close.

Despite Itadori successfully awakening his cursed technique, he still faced the challenge of exorcising Sukuna’s soul from Megumi’s body. While Megumi’s fate seemed bleak, this outcome could potentially bring about the downfall of the powerful King of Curses.

Sukuna, lacking a suitable vessel, could rely on Tengen’s body to prolong the battle. In previous installments, once Yuta successfully struck Kenjaku’s brain and ended his life, the latter granted Megumi (Sukuna) the authority to initiate the fusion of humanity and Tengen, in hopes that his determination would inspire other sorcerers.

Despite the potential drawbacks, merging with Tengen could pose a challenge due to its weak physical form that is not well-suited for combat. As a result, speculation among fans suggests that Sukuna may activate the Tengen merger once the immortal sorcerer becomes a vessel for him. This could result in the creation of an enormous cursed spirit that would be controlled by the King of Curses.

Kenjaku’s goal in starting the Culling Games was to force participating sorcerers to release cursed energy, creating the ideal conditions for Tengen’s merger with humanity to occur at any time. While his plan was nearing completion, the unexpected wildcard of Yuta Okkotsu left Kenjaku with no choice but to entrust his will to another.

Currently, Sukuna may be at his weakest since the final battle began, leading fans to believe that Yuji could easily banish him from Megumi’s body. However, releasing Sukuna could trigger the merging of Tengen and humanity, potentially unleashing a powerful cursed spirit monster that would pose a daunting challenge for the sorcerers to overcome.
