According to a report from Star News on May 21st, it was announced that former GFriend member Yuju had officially ended her exclusive contract with Konnect Entertainment in mid-April. She made the decision not to renew her contract, and has now become a free agent in the entertainment industry. WeDemBoyz, the dance team, also confirmed their plans to part ways with Konnect Entertainment in late November of last year and have since been undergoing the separation process. It has also been reported that singer-producer Chancellor has also departed from Konnect Entertainment.
In 2019, Kang Daniel founded Konnect Entertainment. However, on May 20th, he filed a criminal complaint against the major shareholder “A”for several offenses, including forging private documents, embezzlement, breach of trust, and fraud involving computers and information and communication networks. As a result of this conflict, other artists under the agency have decided to terminate their contracts and leave the company.
Kang Daniel’s legal representative, Attorney Park Sung-woo from Law Firm Wooree, stated that they have filed a criminal complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. The complaint is regarding a 10 billion won prepayment distribution contract that was signed without Kang Daniel’s consent in December 2022. The individual in question, referred to as “A”, is also being accused of transferring at least 2 billion won from the agency’s account overseas. A is considered the majority shareholder of Konnect Entertainment with a 70% ownership, while Kang Daniel holds the position of CEO.
According to Law Firm Wooree, our client has been serving as both the CEO and an artist for the past five years. In order to protect the company and its affiliates, including artists, employees, and third-party contractors who have trusted and followed our client like family, he spent over a year making considerable efforts before deciding to file a criminal complaint. Despite his heavy heart, he ultimately concluded that taking legal action was the only solution and proceeded with the complaint.
Kang Daniel’s tenure as CEO of Konnect Entertainment is expected to come to an end in early June when his exclusive contract with the agency expires.
