Yuri Manga Awajima Hyakkei Gets Anime Adaptation

The manga series, Awajima Hyakkei (One Hundred Views of Awajima), is currently being transformed into an anime. The series is a coming-of-age omnibus that focuses on the girls attending a music academy, with each chapter highlighting a different character’s story.

Awajima Hyakkei is an adolescent drama and romance that centers around a group of young girls attending a “girls-only musical school.”Through multiple perspectives, the story captures the most pivotal years of their lives and the bond they share.

The setting of the story is a one-of-a-kind place, known as the Awajima Musical School Training Camp, which is designed to function as a boarding house. It serves as a hub for aspiring female performers from different parts of Japan to come together and showcase their talents on stage, resulting in a lively and competitive ambiance that acts as both a refuge and a battleground.

In anticipation of the final volume of Takako Shimura’s beloved coming-of-age yuri manga series, Awajima Hyakkei, the official Twitter account for publisher Ohta Web Comics has revealed that the series will be receiving an anime adaptation.

At this stage, no details were released regarding the format or additional information such as the cast, staff, and release date of the anime.

The series Awajima Hyakkei was released in June 2011 and concluded in March 2024. It was published intermittently with numerous peaks and valleys, consisting of a total of 31 chapters.

The serialization of Awajima Hyakkei began on Ohta Publishing’s PocoPoco website. However, due to the website’s closure, the manga was transferred to Ohta Web Comic in July 2016. In 2019, the manga went on a three-year hiatus and then resumed its monthly serialization in January 2022.

The manga once more went on hiatus in August 2022 but resumed in November 2023. The fifth and final volume is set to be released in Japan on May 15, 2024. Ohta Publishing Company has also revealed the cover for the final volume of the manga.

Shimura, the author of Awajima Hyakkei, is renowned for her acclaimed works, including Horou Musuko and Aoi Hana, which have both been adapted into anime. It is noteworthy that Awajima Hyakkei is based in the same fictional world as Aoi Hana, offering a captivating and cohesive narrative.

With three anime adaptations already released, we eagerly anticipate future works from Shimura. While there is currently limited information about the upcoming Awajima Hyakkei anime adaptation, be assured that we will provide updates as they become available.

In 2011, Takako Shimura, the creator of the Sweet Blue Flowers and Wandering Son manga series, released Awajima Hyakkei on Ohta Comic’s former web manga platform, Poko Poko. The series later moved to Ohta Web Comics in 2016.
