Zenless Zone Zero Gacha System Explained

Discover all the information you need to know about the gacha system in Zenless Zone Zero, including how the 50-50 and pity mechanics affect your chances of obtaining top-tier five-star characters, weapons, and Bangboos in the game.

Continuing their streak of successful releases such as Honkai Star Rail and Genshin Impact, HoYoverse is now gearing up to launch Zenless Zone Zero, a new gacha game featuring an entirely new setting and a large selection of characters.

The release of ZZZ on PC, mobile, and PS5 has been officially confirmed by the developers for July 4, 2024. Additionally, numerous playable characters have been unveiled. For those interested in obtaining these units, a breakdown of Zenless Zone Zero’s gacha system, including information on pity and 50-50, is provided below.

How does gacha work in Zenless Zone Zero?

In Zenless Zone Zero, or any other gacha game, pity refers to the number of pulls required in a specific banner before obtaining a rate-up character or weapon.

Every banner includes various rate-ups, each with distinct rarities such as ‘A’ and ‘S’ Rank for characters in ZZZ. Additionally, the banner guarantees that if you do not receive them after a certain number of pulls, you will obtain them in the next one.

Zenless Zone Zero: Understanding the Pity System for Character Banners

In Zenless Zone Zero, guaranteed character banners ensure that you will receive an S-Rank character every 90 pulls and an A-Rank character every 10 pulls.

Therefore, if you use your Intertwined Fate (or Primogems) to make 89 Wishes without receiving an S-Rank character, your subsequent Wish will ensure that you obtain an S-Rank character. In Genshin Impact terminology: Primogems are equivalent to Flim, Intertwined Fate is equivalent to Encrypted Master Tape, and Wish is equivalent to Signal Search.

The pity system remains consistent for both the limited banner, Mellow Waveride, and the permanent banner, Star-Studded Cast. While each banner has its own individual pity counter, the pull rates for both are identical.

Zenless Zone Zero weapon banner pity explained

In Zenless Zone Zero, the weapon banner pity guarantees an S-Rank every 80 pulls and an A-Rank every 10 pulls.

This table provides a breakdown of the probabilities for banner and item drops.

TYPE OF BANNER A-RANK PITY A-RANK DROP RATE (EVERY SIGNAL SEARCH) S-RANK PITY S-RANK DROP RATE (EVERY SIGNAL SEARCH) B-RANK PITY B-RANK DROP RATE
Mellow Waveride (Permanent Banner) 10 7.2% 90 0.6% 92%
Star-Studded Cast (Standard Banner) 10 7.2% 90 0.6% 92%
W-Engine (Weapon Banner) 10 9.4% 80 0.7% 92%

It should be noted that in addition to characters and weapons (W-Engines), Bangboos can also be obtained from Zenless Zone Zero banners. These supplementary support units provide various buffs to your team and are classified as S or A-ranks.

The reset for Pity only occurs when you receive an S-Rank drop or W-Engine and it also remains active through updates.

What is soft pity in Zenless Zone Zero?

In the Zenless Zone Zero, having soft pity means that the chances of obtaining an S-Rank unit slightly increase after surpassing 75 Signal Searches. This mechanic is also present in other HoYoverse games, although the specific numbers have not been officially disclosed for any of them.

Even if you’re experiencing a string of bad luck, soft pity guarantees that you may receive an S-Rank drop before reaching the end of the pity system and having to use currency for all 90 pulls.

How does 50-50 work in Zenless Zone Zero?

The Mellow Waveride (limited banner) in Zenless Zone Zero operates on a 50-50 system, where reaching the 90-pull pity threshold allows you to receive either a rate up for the limited banner or the standard banner.

As the name suggests, there is an equal chance of success and failure. However, if you happen to receive a standard banner unit, the next 90-pull will ensure a rate-up.

How to Check Pity in Zenless Zone Zero

You can verify your pity in Zenless Zone Zero by selecting ‘Details’ under the banner. The resulting pop-up will display the drop rates of the banner’s featured items, while the Search History tab will show the items obtained from your recent pulls.

To determine your pity, you have two options: manually counting the number of pulls made after obtaining your last S-Rank unit, or using third-party apps like Stardb which keep track of your pity. However, be cautious when entering your account information and only utilize websites that you trust.

Having gained an understanding of the gacha system in Zenless Zone Zero, it is important to review the game’s PC requirements to ensure compatibility with your device. Additionally, you can also find a list of all the actors who have voiced your beloved characters.
