In a troubling turn of events, yet another Amazon delivery driver has been videotaped taking a family’s cat, prompting the company to launch an internal inquiry. This incident follows closely on the heels of a similar occurrence in California, highlighting a worrying trend.
This latest case unfolded in Elland, near Halifax, England, on January 19. The family, which owns the cat named Nora, became anxious when she did not return home, particularly since Nora has health issues that necessitate regular medication.
Upon reviewing footage from their doorbell camera, the family spotted the driver — clad in a high-visibility jacket and carrying a package — at their Park Avenue residence. The video showed the driver ringing the doorbell and waiting a few moments while Nora lingered nearby. In a shocking moment, he then turned, picked up the cat, and walked away.
Carl Crowther, the cat’s owner, expressed to YorkshireLive his family’s deep concern for Nora’s well-being, emphasizing that she typically remains close to home and is not accustomed to new surroundings.
“We were devastated to see the driver lingering and then seizing the opportunity, ” he described, conveying a sense of disbelief as he witnessed the event unfold.“It was shocking when he placed her in his vehicle.”
Resolution: Cat Reunited with Family
West Yorkshire Police confirmed they received a report around 2:30 PM regarding the theft of Nora from the family’s property. Thankfully, authorities later announced that the missing cat had been found and returned safely to her owners.
In an official statement, the police indicated, “A crime of theft has been recorded, and inquiries are ongoing.”
The Crowther family, including Carl, his partner Sarah, and their two daughters, expressed their relief and joy at having Nora back home. They adopted her from the RSPCA in 2022, and her friendly demeanor has made her disappearance all the more distressing for the family.
While Carl reported the situation to Amazon, he was unhappy with the company’s initial response. He noted that not only was he asked to assign a monetary value to his pet, but he also felt the response lacked genuine support.
“How can anyone put a value on someone’s pet?” he questioned, emphasizing the emotional bond they share with Nora.
In recognition of the seriousness of the incident, Amazon has stated that they are actively investigating the matter and are cooperating with law enforcement.
This case is reminiscent of a previous viral incident in California, where an Amazon driver took a cat that has not yet been found. In that situation, Amazon confirmed that the driver involved was a third-party partner and has since been terminated.
