In the much-anticipated Elden Ring expansion, Nightreign, fans will notice the absence of Torrent, the beloved horse from the original game. However, according to the game’s director, this change is offset by a revamped traversal system that promises a fresh gameplay experience.

Torrent has been integral to the Elden Ring experience, allowing players to navigate the expansive landscapes and providing critical advantages in combat. With the arrival of Nightreign, players can expect a distinct adventure characterized by shorter gameplay sessions, typically lasting no longer than 45 minutes.

The Shift in Gameplay Dynamics in Elden Ring Nightreign

During a recent preview event, Junya Ishizaki, the director of Nightreign, shared key insights regarding the absence of horses in this new installment. He explained to journalists that the redesign of traversal mechanics is central to the game’s new format.

“We want Nightreign players to experience the excitement of our newly implemented traversal techniques, ”Ishizaki mentioned (as reported by Dot Esports). He further emphasized that the overall game speed and feel have also undergone significant transformation, creating a different rhythm in gameplay.

“Players will find that utilizing the sprinting and mounting system, along with Spectral Hawks, allows for quicker movement across the map. This innovative approach to traversal feels notably faster compared to riding Torrent in the original title, ” he elaborated.

With Nightreign featuring a more compact map and accelerated gameplay, the role of horseback riding is understandably diminished. Nonetheless, players will still have access to allies for traversal, particularly through the introduction of Spectral Hawks. These creatures will appear in various locations throughout the map, assisting players by providing a unique means of flight to destination points.

The excitement builds as select players will have the opportunity to experience these mechanics firsthand during the Nightreign Network Test, which begins on February 14.
