Initially, it was communicated that disabling crossplay on consoles would result in PlayStation and Xbox players being matched solely with each other in Battlefield 6. However, EA has now clarified that this assumption is incorrect.
Crossplay has indeed marked a significant advancement in the gaming landscape, as it allows players greater flexibility in platform selection while still competing with friends. Yet, this feature has also introduced various challenges. A notable concern among console gamers is the perceived advantage that PC players have, owing to superior mouse and keyboard controls as well as higher frame rates. Additionally, the issue of cheating in PC gaming has surfaced as a substantial drawback.
Many console users prefer the option to engage in matches exclusively against fellow console players to significantly reduce the likelihood of encountering cheaters.
No Console-Only Crossplay Feature in Battlefield 6
When console players activate crossplay, the matchmaking system primarily aims to pair them with other console users. However, the matchmaking pool remains inclusive of players from all platforms, leaving open the possibility of facing someone on PC. On the other hand, PC players do not have the choice to turn off crossplay.
By disabling crossplay on console, players will be limited to matching only with others on the same platform—Xbox for Xbox users and PlayStation for PlayStation users. This setting also restricts players from grouping together or joining sessions with those on different platforms.

This clarification diverges from earlier statements made by Ripple Effect’s Matthew Nickerson during an interview with IGN on September 12. He previously indicated that enabling console-only crossplay would indeed occur if crossplay was turned off, suggesting that PC players would not be included in those matches.
He had mentioned that it would be possible for PlayStation and Xbox players to team up if crossplay was disabled, but that information has since been revised.
This means that, regardless of whether crossplay is active or not, there remains a potential risk of encountering PC players—and consequently, the risk of facing a cheater. During the same IGN discussion, developers acknowledged the persistent battle against cheating, admitting that they would “never win”against it, but emphasized their commitment to taking “extremely aggressive”measures to combat it.
