Warner Bros.has officially announced the closure of **MultiVersus**, an ambitious project aiming to rival the gaming phenomenon **Super Smash Bros.**.This marks the second time the game will be shut down.

Although the initial beta launch was met with enthusiasm and positive feedback, the game soon encountered significant challenges. These issues prompted the developers to temporarily remove it from online storefronts for improvements and optimizations.

MultiVersus Officially Discontinued

When it first debuted, **MultiVersus** experienced remarkable popularity. On Steam, it recorded a peak of **153, 000 players** at launch and still managed to attract over **100, 000 players** during its subsequent release. However, the initial excitement proved fleeting.

Following the second launch, interest in the game plummeted dramatically. Even during major content updates, player engagement dwindled to fewer than **10, 000** participants. By the time the cancellation announcement was made, the game’s player count had shrunk to just **648 players** during peak hours, illuminating the challenges the developers faced in retaining an active player base.

In their official statement, the developers confirmed that **Season 5** will be the game’s final update, commencing on **February 4, 2025**, and concluding on **May 30, 2025**.After this period, players will still have the option to enjoy the game in offline mode indefinitely.

As of the announcement date, January 31, 2025, all microtransactions have been disabled, and purchasing the in-game currency **Gleamium** is no longer possible. Players may use their existing currency to buy items in the shop, but the possibility of refunds for in-game purchases remains uncertain.

To preserve their game progress, players must log into **MultiVersus** before **May 9, 2025**, to create a local save file containing all earned and purchased items. Failing to do so, or not having the game installed before this date, will prevent them from accessing the game, as it will be entirely removed from all storefronts.

Once the game is taken down, online features will be disabled, making multiplayer gameplay impossible unless players use third-party solutions like **Parsec** to simulate local play with friends.

The final message from the developers was one of gratitude, stating:
