Among the outstanding pixel-art games of the year, Terminator 2D: No Fate stands out not only for its visual appeal but also for its seamless adaptation of the iconic film, Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Set in the aftermath of the cinematic events, this engaging action-adventure title delivers a captivating gaming experience across various platforms.

However, if you are utilizing an ultrawide monitor, be prepared for some potential drawbacks, as the game lacks native support for these displays. By default, players may encounter unsightly black bars on either side of the screen. Fortunately, a dedicated member from the PC widescreen community, Rose, has developed a patch that effectively removes these pillar boxes and enhances the game’s visual presentation.

Resolving Ultrawide Compatibility Issues in Terminator 2D: No Fate

Rose’s patch is specifically designed to expand ultrawide compatibility while eliminating vertical black bars. The installation process is straightforward, and here’s how you can implement it:

  • Ensure Terminator 2D: No Fate is closed.
  • Visit the GitHub page, and download the latest patch by clicking on Terminator.2D.ultrawide.v0.1.zip under the Assets section.
  • Locate your game installation directory and extract the contents of the zip file there.
  • Launch the game again; it may take a little longer to load, but the patch will remove the black bars effectively after installation.

Below is an illustrative screenshot provided by Rose, demonstrating the patch’s functionality:

A special acknowledgment goes to Rose for her diligent work in testing the patch at resolutions of 2560×1080 and 5120×1440.

As with many mods, there are some known issues to be aware of:

  • Minor user interface discrepancies
  • Objects and enemy visibility zones appear narrower than the actual display width
  • The optional CRT filter may introduce additional distortions compared to the standard 16:9 aspect ratio

Keep an eye on the GitHub page for potential updates from Rose, as she is likely to refine the patch over time. Should you wish to revert to the original game experience, simply remove all the files included with the patch. However, for a more immersive ultrawide experience, continued use of the mod is advisable.

It is hoped that the official developers might consider adding ultrawide support in the future; yet, as of now, no such plans have been announced. One can always remain optimistic!
