Spotify has disclosed that it will not impose restrictions on AI-generated music, even amid backlash from users disturbed by the growing presence of these tracks on popular playlists.
The emergence of artificial intelligence has notably transformed various creative industries, with music experiencing one of the most significant impacts. The rise of fake artists producing AI-generated songs is confusing listeners, blurring the lines between human and machine-created music. A prominent example includes Sienna Rose, who has attracted nearly 3 million monthly listeners—including music star Selena Gomez—alongside other AI-generated artists like Xania Monet.
This influx of AI tracks poses challenges for both musicians and audiences, with many imploring platforms such as Spotify and YouTube Music to exclude these non-human compositions from their suggestions.
Frustration Among Spotify Users Over AI Playlists
Spotify users have expressed their frustration once again regarding the overwhelming number of AI-generated tracks populating significant playlists like New Releases, Discover Weekly, and the Viral 50.
For instance, one user noted that out of ten songs in a playlist, at least five were generated by AI, with one track provocatively named “No Algorithm.”
“In my Discover Weekly, I encountered two more AI songs, making it 7 out of 30 tracks. It’s gradually becoming too excessive, ” reported one Redditor. Another user mentioned switching to Deezer out of fatigue, saying, “I was so tired of AI filling up my music and having to do homework to figure out if they were real or not.”

Spotify’s Stance on AI-Generated Music
Despite these complaints, Spotify asserts that it neither promotes nor penalizes AI-generated tracks, indicating a lack of definitive control over the situation.
In a statement made to TrustedReviews, Spotify clarified: “Spotify does not create or own any music, and does not promote or penalize tracks created using AI tools.”

Back in September, Spotify promised to improve its AI track detection capabilities, having already removed tens of millions of such songs from its platform. While many users appreciate the reduced presence of AI-generated music in their feed, those who encounter it tend to be outspoken about their dissatisfaction.
Moreover, the integration of AI within the platform remains a fixture, as Premium Subscribers can now utilize AI to create personalized playlists based on their music preferences.
