Twitch, one of the leading live streaming platforms on the internet, is enhancing viewer experience with a much-anticipated feature called “Stream Rewind.” This new capability offers users the chance to rewind live broadcasts, enabling them to catch up on missed moments.
Since its inception, Twitch has become a hub for top-tier content creators, continuously rolling out innovative features designed to improve interaction between streamers and their audience. Features like clip generation, gifting bits, and subscriptions have significantly contributed to its popularity. However, the absence of a rewind function for live streams had left many viewers wanting.

Launch of the Long-Awaited Stream Rewind Feature
On September 25, 2025, Twitch officially announced the rollout of the ‘Stream Rewind’ feature. This enhancement allows viewers to rewind a stream that is currently playing, making live broadcasts more interactive and engaging. For detailed instructions, users can refer to the Twitch support article.
With Stream Rewind, viewers can pause, resume, or rewind any point of a stream and easily return to the live action by selecting the ‘live’ button on the video player. Furthermore, the live chat continues to function during pauses and rewinds, ensuring that users remain in the loop and don’t miss exciting moments in real-time.
It’s important to note that broadcasters must activate this feature on their channels. Currently, Stream Rewind is exclusive to Affiliated or Partnered broadcasters and is accessible only to subscribers of a channel or Turbo subscribers on desktop, leaving mobile users with limited access.
According to Dan Clancy, in a recent Patch Notes stream on September 24, the feature is initially limited to subscribers to prevent circumvention of ads. Clancy explained, “We are launching initially for channel subs and Turbo subs… The reason we are limiting it initially is that we need to ensure ads still work with ad blockers.” This decision highlights Twitch’s commitment to maintaining revenue streams for content creators while gradually expanding the feature’s availability.
With the introduction of Stream Rewind, Twitch has finally reached a level of functionality similar to that of YouTube, which has had a rewind feature for its live streams for some time—allowing viewers to replay moments without any payment required, provided the feature is enabled by the content creators.
Originally announced back in June, the launch of Stream Rewind has been highly anticipated by fans of the platform. Now, after months of waiting, it is officially available, marking a significant milestone for both Twitch and its user community.
