Zico’s Collaboration with BLACKPINK’s Jennie
On April 29, the soloist and member of Block-B appeared as a guest on KBS Cool FM’s “Park Myung Soo Radio Show“, where he shared stories with Jennie during the buzz surrounding their recent collaboration track.
On the 26th, Zico released the “SPOT!”(feat. Jennie), which quickly climbed to the top spot on major music charts such as MelOn, Genie, Bugs, and Flo.
During the discussion of the viral song, DJ Park Myung Soo also shared insights into the collaboration between Zico and Jennie.
Zico was questioned about how he presented the project to the worldwide K-pop star, to which he responded:
“I originally knew Jennie (personally). But when I request a person for a feature, I try to create the most comfortable atmosphere possible. Anyway, the choice is yours, so make the best song first and let them hear it.
I also tell them, ‘If you have anything to say, please tell me, and if you still have any regrets, we can work together on other projects, so please feel free to tell me.”
According to Zico, Jennie, the “SOLO”singer, had a positive reaction when she heard the song and even provided her input on it immediately.
“When Jennie was listening to this song, she said she was very excited and said, ‘It’s fun.’ But at the same time, she suggested, “If we release it more like this, wouldn’t the song sound cooler?’
That comment became blood and flesh. She’s really grown as more mature.”

Furthermore, when questioned about Jennie’s musical persona, Zico had nothing but high praise for the artist, stating:
“She has a very great sensibility. Although we have known each other for a long time personally, it was our first time working together professionally.
I think singers are also creative. They decide on the harmony that suits the track and choose the voice color. The process of creating together in the studio, she has exceptional ability in that area.
She was able to proceed with the work easily because she provided her own options without relying on the director for everything. She’s very professional.”

Zico expressed his strong desire to collaborate with the idol, stating:
“I tend to not recruit features through the company, but rather do it myself.”
Continuing on, he stated:
“I’m rather picky, but in that respect, it felt like Jennie and my strength met. We didn’t end with ‘This is enough. Is it okay to do this?’ and continued. Even after the music video was released, we continued to discuss it and this is the result.”
