Zico’s Song Lyrics Criticized By Chinese Netizens

In online communities, there has been a widespread sharing of screenshots featuring Chinese netizens’ comments criticizing the lyrics of Zico’s song “If I ain’t got OO (word disparaging China)”.

Despite the title, the lyrics of this song contain numerous words and phrases that criticize China, including “It’s OO again,””I detest OO,”and “I truly despise OO,”among others.

Despite Zico’s apparent use of the word “OO”as slang for jjajangmyeon in the song, he continues to face criticism from Chinese netizens.

Korean netizens were also disappointed with Zico’s actions. They shared their thoughts, stating, “This is regrettable”, “Even if Chinese individuals insult him, I have no justification”, “I would feel offended as well if I were Chinese”, “There are surely more offensive words out there”, “Was it necessary for him to use those words?”, “I support the criticism towards him”, “He collaborated on this song with rapper Hanhae”, etc.

On May 21st, Zico’s latest song “SPOT!”achieved a No.1 ranking on the Global chart (excluding US) and No.32 on the Global 200 according to the most recent Billboard chart release. This marks the third week in a row that the song has appeared on the charts. Additionally, the song has received positive feedback and performed well in Korea, topping both Melon and Genie’s Weekly charts for three weeks in a row.

“SPOT!”marks Zico’s first release of the year, commemorating his solo debut’s 10th anniversary. The song garnered significant buzz due to its collaboration with BLACKPINK’s Jennie.
