Moe Sa Nay, a 14-year-old TikTok star, tragically passed away on Monday, July 22 after falling while trying to take a selfie with a friend.
The two friends were visiting the town of Paung in Mon State, Myanmar when the accident happened at the Sinywa Waterfall.
Both Moe and her friend fell, but while her friend drifted to land and survived with only minor injuries, Moe was not as fortunate.
Despite being pinned between two large boulders in the water, the TikTok star fought against the thrashing current but tragically drowned before help could arrive.
Despite the efforts of first responders, her body remained trapped between the two rocks overnight as they were unable to retrieve it on the day she passed away.
The next day, law enforcement officials had no choice but to use ropes to remove her body from its position.

Mon Zaw, a rescue worker, made a statement about Moe’s passing following her arrival at the Paung Township General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
“The individual who fell eventually reached the ground, but unfortunately passed away due to being trapped between large rocks. Their inability to escape resulted in their death. Despite attempts to save them, they could not be extracted. Following this, aid organizations and officials arrived,”he clarified.
After Moe’s death was announced to her TikTok supporters, they expressed their condolences on the platform wherever possible.
One person on TikTok commented, expressing their sorrow at the news and reminding others to value and protect their lives.
Another person added, “May her soul rest in peace.”
Numerous individuals on the platform also voiced their frustration towards influencers who were focusing on gaining likes rather than prioritizing their own safety.
Similarly to Moe, an 11-year-old boy passed away in March following his participation in the TikTok “chroming”challenge, where individuals inhale harmful chemicals in order to experience a high.
Subsequently, his family advised for the banning of TikTok in order to protect the well-being of young individuals.
