In a bold and carefully orchestrated operation, thieves successfully stole approximately $180, 000 worth of Pokémon cards by tunneling through the wall of a collectibles store in California. This overnight burglary, which took place at DOWE Collectibles in Anaheim, has shocked the local community and sparked discussions about security in retail.
The perpetrators initially broke into an adjacent business before creating a hole in the shared wall, allowing them direct access to DOWE Collectibles. Within mere minutes, they raided the store, making off with hundreds of valuable Pokémon cards, as captured by surveillance cameras.
Targeted Approach by Burglars
According to a report from KTLA, store owner Duy Pham was alerted to the break-in early in the morning when he received a security notification. Upon reviewing the footage, he was shocked to see the suspects entering through the breach.
“I clicked on the footage and saw guys coming through the hole, ” Pham recounted.“My heart was pounding.”
Pham noted that the suspects seemed to have a clear goal, as they quickly zeroed in on specific items without being distracted by other merchandise. It appears they were well aware of the high value of Pokémon cards, with some individual cards selling for up to $10, 000.

The theft reportedly involved over 500 cards, but the condition of these cards—whether they were ungraded or professionally graded by notable entities like PSA and Beckett—remains uncertain. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the thieves fled in a dark-colored vehicle.
The rising popularity of Pokémon cards, with strong demand from collectors, makes them increasingly appealing to criminals. Recently, YouTube and WWE star Logan Paul made headlines by selling one of the rarest Pokémon cards for more than $16 million, underscoring the lucrative nature of this market.
Despite being relatively rare, modern Pokémon cards can still command thousands on secondary markets, solidifying their status as prime targets for burglary. The community will be watching closely as police continue their investigation into this heist.
