Riot Games is set to make waves in the fighting game community with the transition of their inaugural title, 2XKO, from closed beta to early access. This exciting development raises questions about what players can anticipate as they delve into this new gaming experience.

2XKO is a dynamic 2v2 tag team fighter set within the renowned League of Legends universe. Players can engage in epic battles in teams of two or take part in one-on-one confrontations.

Initially teased back in 2019 under the codename ‘Project L, ’ 2XKO has undergone several testing phases over the years, with the latest closed beta wrapping up in September 2025. Following an engaging announcement video released on September 23, developers Tom Cannon and Shaun Rivera confirmed that the game is finally moving forward.

Early Access Launch Date

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 7, as this date not only signifies the conclusion of the closed beta but also heralds the arrival of 2XKO in early access.

The developers are set to introduce a new character on the same day, enticing players to jump back into the fray with fresh content.

Features to Expect in Early Access

The early access phase promises to offer players the first fully-fledged iteration of 2XKO, complete with a robust season’s worth of content. Players can look forward to engaging with new features including combo trials categorized by skill levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert.

In true fighting game fashion, 2XKO will incorporate a Battle Pass system, rewarding players with exciting additions such as new characters, costumes, stages, and various in-game perks.

Players can enjoy access to combo trials as part of the early access features.

Furthermore, once early access concludes, players can rest easy knowing that all acquired in-game items, such as costumes and color schemes, will remain permanently theirs. The inclusion of a ranked mode from the closed beta allows players to actively compete and climb the global leaderboards, fostering a competitive environment.

Understanding 2XKO Seasons

In their recent update, the developers shared their plans for regular content refreshes, identifying that 2XKO will feature distinct seasons, each introducing new characters and content at a faster pace compared to traditional fighting games.

Fans can anticipate five seasons per year, each packed with novel characters and engaging in-game experiences, ensuring there’s always something fresh on the horizon.

The First Impact Program

Recognizing the enthusiastic support for fighting game tournaments during the closed beta phase, Riot has decided to roll out the First Impact program. This initiative will sponsor a total of 22 tournaments throughout the remainder of 2025, featuring notable events like Puerto Rico’s First Attack, The Mixup, and DreamHack.

Moreover, the tournaments will unveil a special pot bonus from Riot, offering duos a chance to compete for rewards uniquely tailored for tag-team play. This setup revives the competitive spirit reminiscent of Street Fighter x Tekken.

The first tournament under the First Impact banner is scheduled for Evo France from October 10-12. Although an official launch date for 2XKO remains unannounced, with the early access phase around the corner and packed with features, it feels like players will soon have a fully realized game at their fingertips. Get ready to unleash your fighting skills!
